Overview KGET in Bakersfield, the ratings leader in Market 125, needs a jack- or jill-of-all-trades to helm our critical weekend newscasts.

The weekend anchor and three-day-a-week reporter is a newsroom leader who produces and anchors two 30-minute newscasts on Saturdays and Sundays, including presenting weather. He or she is a fill-in anchor on weekdays. The weekend anchor serves as an MMJ for three weekdays.

Bakersfield is the ninth most populous city in California and we’ll soon pass Oakland. More people live in Kern County than San Francisco County and we’re growing like crazy because of the low cost of living. KGET is NBC/Bakersfield and the dominant media between LA and San Francisco. It’s the kind of place where talented, hard-working journalists are given time and resources to nurture nascent story ideas into full grown public service.

This is an amazing news town and our motto is “own the big story.” We’re not afraid to give a reporter a couple extra days to do an important story and not afraid to send reporters across the country to get a key interview. To make all this work, we need people who can construct compelling showcases for the amazing storytelling that happens here. Our team has built a nurturing culture around public service through journalism. There’s a big sign on our newsroom wall that says, “Our mission is simple and clear: To make our town a better place.” Fulfilling that promise has made KGET the legacy No. 1 station in Bakersfield. In every daypart, more people watch us than all other local stations combined. We have a reputation for serious news done well.
