Overview
Portland State University Campus Police Officers are responsible for maintaining peace and public safety through enforcement of laws, performing traffic control, and providing emergency services on the Portland State University campus, to include the adjacent community. Campus Police Officers must at all times support the University mission and uphold the right and dignity of all individuals, interacting effectively with the campus and surrounding community (students, faculty, staff, administrators, visitors, and members of the public). They must demonstrate trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, communication, justice, fairness, caring, civic virtue, impartiality, and citizenship, while maintaining integrity, ethical values, pride, and professionalism. The Campus Police Officer is trained in accordance with applicable DPSST requirements, applicable state law, and PSU Campus Public Safety departmental policy to exercise the authorities of a police officer. They will act in support of the University’s mission and goals and are expected to exercise their authorities in alignment with the University’s strategic plans, policies, and culture. They follow the established chain of command, bringing information or concerns to their immediate supervisor before moving to higher levels of management. Responsibilities
Maintain peace and public safety on campus and adjacent areas; enforce laws and perform traffic control; provide emergency services as needed. Adhere to University policies, departmental policies, and applicable laws; perform duties within safety guidelines. Maintain qualifications required by PSU and the DPSST; complete all required reports and paperwork to support Public Safety services. Conduct effective and professional interviews with witnesses, suspects, and relevant parties; maintain a personal notebook of on-duty activities. Attend mandatory meetings and trainings; keep required certifications and immunizations current. Complete proficiency evaluations and demonstrate minimum competency as required by regulatory bodies and PSU requirements. Collaborate with the community (students, faculty, staff, administrators, visitors) in a respectful and professional manner. Qualifications

DPSST Oregon Certified as Basic Police or higher US Citizenship within 18 months of employment 21 years of age Valid driver’s license from state of residence No felony convictions in Oregon or any other jurisdiction No violation of any law involving controlled substances No denial of any law by OAR 259-008-0070 High School Diploma/GED; ability to pass law enforcement proficiency exam Meet minimum medical requirements as identified in OAR 259-008-0010 Successful completion of Field Training and Evaluation Program Entry-level Officers: Additional Minimum Qualifications
Meet DPSST Minimum Qualifications to be eligible for Certification as Basic Police within one year of employment (subject to change by DPSST): US Citizenship within 18 months of employment; 21 years of age Valid driver’s license from state of residence No felony convictions in Oregon or any other jurisdiction No violation of any law involving controlled substances No denial of any law by OAR 259-008-0070 High School Diploma/GED Ability to pass law enforcement proficiency exam Ability to pass the Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT) within 5:30 or less Meet minimum medical requirements as identified in OAR 259-008-0010 Both (Lateral and Entry): Additional Qualifications
Successful completion of the Field Training and Evaluation Program Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interact professionally with diverse individuals Cultural competency and ability to work with diverse cultures/ethnic backgrounds Ability to learn and follow Oregon Revised Statutes, Federal Law, PSU Administrative Policies and Department of Public Safety Policies Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and report critical security, safety, and maintenance items promptly Valid State-issued driver’s license Preferred Qualifications
Lateral Officers: Field Training Officer qualified (FTO); 4 years of experience as a police officer Both: Four-year degree or higher, four years of related experience, or military police experience; current law enforcement employment in another state with DPSST reciprocity Certified bilingual proficiency in specified languages or as determined by the University Key Cultural Competencies

Work Days/Hours: Sunday to Saturday, 40 hours per week; schedule and shifts to be determined. Compensation and Benefits
The starting salary range is $32.42 to $34.03 per hour. Salary may be negotiable based on knowledge, experience, skills, abilities, departmental budget, and HR approval.
