General Description Of Position The Sales Engineer focuses on the sales of highly technical products. They grow the business by maintaining strong customer relationships, supporting development activity within an assigned customer base, facilitating contract negotiations, resolving customer issues, and reporting on business activities. This role requires strong internal and external communication with administration, engineering, production, and quality teams to address customer needs. The candidate will closely manage and report on account activity, as driving new business is a key performance indicator.

Requirements

4-year degree, BS preferred: Material Science/Engineering/Technical

3 years outside technical sales experience

Strong technical understanding of drawings, materials, and engineering terms

Ability to resolve conflicts effectively and professionally

Organized with demonstrated follow-up

Ability to work well with others, externally and internally

Proven written and verbal communication skills (phone, email, presentations, in person)

Must possess legal driver’s license and be able to drive in the US

Proficient with Outlook & MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Basic proficiency in extracting information from SAP

Ability to pass background check and drug screen

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Meet monthly booking goals (MSP) and milestones for Master Plan and 3-year sales plans within and for the assigned account base. Report opportunities and customer requirements to management.

Use technical engineering skills to generate new business with established products and collaborate with development engineers on market needs.

Manage customer interaction and relationship within own account base. Recommend improved materials or products within Kyocera’s material family.

Represent customer requests and perspectives to production, quality, and management to provide customer-first support.

Regularly communicate with counterparts in Japan and the US on price quotations, part delivery, technical confirmation, legal language discussions, cross-application support.

May travel up to 50% of the time; coordinate travel with international production facilities and management during customer visits in the US. May attend trade shows or present in forums for Kyocera.

Drive daily sales activity including order tracking, scheduling, logistics planning, collection, on-time delivery reporting, and related analysis. Stay current on market trends for new products.

Mentor or train associate sales engineers or sales staff and/or lead projects as needed.

Prepare and deliver excellent technical presentations in various formats (face-to-face, webinar, phone, tradeshow). Build strong knowledge of your business, materials, and industry; communicate clearly with customers and production, including strong Excel and business writing skills. May present at various levels within the organization.

Secure new orders, verify delivery and satisfaction. Plan expenses and report on new orders and booking results monthly.

Identify and target potential customers; continuously improve customer relations to increase market penetration.
