Purpose:

The ideal candidate is an outstanding teacher with a deep knowledge and understanding of leading, training and managing a vocal ensemble. He/she enjoys working with students and has experience masterfully guiding them in the development of their vocal skills. The US Choir Director is charged with teaching Upper School (grades 9-12) classes working closely in collaboration with other Middle School and Upper School Music Faculty and the Fine Arts Department Chair to promote and develop an exemplary choir program and develop the Musical Arts at ESD. This position also works in conjunction with the Chaplains and other Music Faculty regarding music selection for daily chapel services and special events.. The successful candidate will also serve as an upper school advisor, willingness to serve in a department leadership capacity, and facilitate involvement in Fine Arts festivals and competitions. Essential Functions: Teach US courses while building a strong choral program delivering instruction aligned with ESD’s Statement of Educational Philosophy. Provide integral and varied support, planning, oversight, and communication as an academic advisor in the upper school. Design and implement a varied, innovative, and motivational curriculum to develop and build an exemplary program in the Upper School. Produce regular and consistent performances each year. Work closely and collaborate with MS and US Music Department instructors to develop a singular vision of continuity and growth and to implement the school’s curricular initiatives and ESD’s strategic plan. Serve as consultant or liaison for select school events. Participate and engage in professional activities and gatherings at team, departmental, divisional, and school-wide levels. Use appropriate technology in support of the curriculum of the twenty-first-century global classroom. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Division Head or Department Chair. Actively seek out professional development and growth opportunities. Adheres to policies related to boundaries with students. Attends required abuse risk management training. Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising students. Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors. Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements. Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. Generally, 40% sitting, 40% walking, and 20% standing. Minimal temperature variations. Generally, a hazard-free environment. Bachelors in Music or Music Education; Masters in Music or Music Education preferred Demonstrated passion for and experience in teaching as well as a passion for music Strong organizational skills; ability to manage multiple ongoing tasks simultaneously Ability to collaborate successfully and work cheerfully Understanding of a variety of music genres Proficiency in music theory and analysis Professional experience and teaching experience is preferred Knowledge of sound equipment and accompaniment skills are helpful
