Responsibilities
Lead the crew to complete daily tasks related to the installation and repair of natural gas pipelines and/or joint trench utilities for power and telephone in a safe and correct manner. Oversee crew safety and productivity; install and pressure test both mainline and service line gas pipe; complete routine safety inspections and documentation. Oversee the Line team and work with customers, senior management, and personnel from other departments. Oversee, coordinate, and ensure all work quality related to each project and assume full responsibility for its standard and timeliness. Coordinate and delegate daily tasks to crew members related to digging and placing product. Gain entry to site buildings for work crew and call-in utilities located at each project site. Facilitate daily toolbox talks and weekly safety inspections to ensure crews work safely. Complete all paperwork in a timely manner. Train new hires and trainees to learn the trade; track employee hours and submit for payroll on a timely basis. Call in utilities located at each project site and inspect existing utilities to ensure piping is correctly installed and fused, meeting customer specifications and company quality standards. Operate equipment to/from job sites to assist crews; keep the job moving on time, perform job restoration, and communicate with customers and inspectors. Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
Qualifications
MUST BE BILINGUAL IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH. A High School Degree, or equivalent. A minimum of 3 years of experience with gas pipeline construction or maintenance, with 2 years of supervisory experience. Proficiency in fusing, tapping, pressure testing, and purging. CDL Class A license, or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire date. OSHA 10 Certification. Knowledge of gas and how to safely work with it; ability to read and interpret customer specifications and prints. Proficiency in all phases of the line in construction; adherence to safety standards and procedures according to MasTec or project customer standards. Ability to communicate with customers' inspectors and provide good customer service. Experience operating heavy equipment and performing general construction tasks. Ability to visually inspect fusion or welded joints, spot utilities, and locate marks by color; color vision required. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less; precise hand-eye coordination. Ability to work outdoors, including in extreme weather conditions.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This job operates in a field environment. It may require extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, standing, twisting, and working in inclement weather. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements as noted above apply.
