Job Description Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University, seeks a Communications and Marketing Specialist to support national marketing campaigns and college-wide communications initiatives. This position plays a key role in advancing the visibility, impact, and reach of Barrett, which has repeatedly been ranked the top honors college in the U.S. by PrepScholar.

The Communications and Marketing Specialist leads communications strategy and execution for the Lorraine W. Frank Office of National Scholarships Advisement (ONSA) while also contributing to broader Barrett marketing and storytelling efforts. The role blends strategic planning with hands-on content development and campaign execution, and includes supervising student employees and, as the program grows, additional staff members. The Specialist collaborates closely with campus partners, external vendors, and advertising agencies to ensure cohesive, high-quality messaging across platforms.

This position reports to the Director of Communications for Barrett and works in close collaboration with the Associate Dean for National Scholarships and Director of ONSA.

Essential Duties

Communications and Marketing for the Office of National Scholarships Advisement (ONSA)

Lead communications and marketing strategy to increase awareness of national scholarship opportunities and grow the pipeline of qualified applicants.

Collaborate with ONSA leadership and staff to plan and deliver communications initiatives, including messaging, campaign development, and multi-channel content creation, that support outreach, engagement, and application interest and completion.

Develop and lead creative digital and social media strategies to promote scholarship opportunities and showcase ASU’s academic excellence and national impact.

Ensure all communications align with and advance the ASU Charter and Barrett’s vision, mission, and values, bringing creativity, adaptability, and an innovative mindset to evolving communications needs.

Use tools such as Airtable, Microsoft Office, Salesforce, and related platforms to plan campaigns, manage workflows and timelines, track outreach efforts, and analyze performance metrics to inform strategy and improve engagement.

Barrett Marketing and Communications

Support Barrett-wide marketing and communications initiatives under the direction of the Director of Communications, including development and management of digital content across web, email, and social media platforms.

Implement creative, student-centered outreach strategies across social media, email marketing, newsletters, web content, and paid digital channels.

Research and write content including emails, newsletters, news stories, social media posts, announcements, and program updates.

Maintain editorial, social media, and content calendars to ensure timely, coordinated, and strategic communications.

Support the planning and coordination of paid and boosted digital campaigns in collaboration with the Director of Communications and external partners.

Assist with video production efforts as needed, including supporting interviews, capturing short-form video, coordinating shoots, and preparing video content for social media and digital campaigns.

Supervision and Team Support

Supervise and mentor student employees supporting communications and marketing efforts.

Supervise the work of an additional staff member, contingent on position approval and funding.

Assign work, set expectations, review deliverables, and provide feedback to ensure quality and consistency.

Brand Stewardship and Collaboration

Ensure all communications align with ASU and Barrett brand standards, voice, and accessibility best practices.

Collaborate closely with the Director of Communications to align messaging with institutional priorities.

Work with campus partners, stakeholders, and external vendors to support campaign development and execution.

Desired Qualifications

Demonstrated marketing copywriting skills across multiple formats, including social media, email marketing, newsletters, and journalistic-style content, with demonstrated knowledge and application of AP style.

Experience developing and executing digital communications or marketing strategies, including organic and paid social media and email campaigns.

Proficiency using tools such as Airtable, Microsoft Office, Salesforce, Hootsuite, Meta Business Suite, and other platforms for project management, campaign management, analytics, and reporting.

Experience supervising and mentoring student employees or junior staff, including assigning work, providing feedback, and ensuring quality and consistency.

Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, timelines, and stakeholders.

Ability to collaborate effectively with internal partners and external vendors or agencies to support campaign development and execution.

Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field

Demonstrated experience in writing, editing, and digital content development.

Experience developing and executing communications or marketing strategies.

Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Experience with social media platforms, email marketing, and digital content tools.

Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Experience working in higher education or student-focused communications.

Familiarity with paid media advertising and performance optimization.

Experience supporting basic video production or short-form video for digital platforms.

Minimum of three to five years of experience in communications or marketing, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.

Working Environment

This position involves a combination of desk-based work and attendance at meetings, events, and occasional content production activities

This role may involve extended periods of sitting or standing, and occasional walking between locations, with reasonable accommodations available

Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support events or deadlines.

Some local travel between ASU campuses may be required.

This position is based on ASU’s Tempe campus, with flexibility for remote work up to two days per week in accordance with university policy and operational needs.

Hours: M-F, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Position Salary Range $ 51,500 - $60,000 per year:DOE
