Your Role And Responsibilities As a visual designer for IBM Quantum, you will work at the intersection of science, design, and culture to design experiences for one of the most innovative technology initiatives at IBM. You will help define and evolve the visual expression of IBM Quantum across digital products, marketing, and brand experiences. You will craft visual experiences that aid in communicating complex concepts and influencing user behavior, with the overall goal of making quantum more broadly usable and accessible. To do all of this, you will collaborate closely with a cross-disciplinary team of UX designers, user researchers, product managers, and developers to ensure a cohesive, high-quality visual system across web, social, and event touch points—while pushing the brand forward over time.
Your Primary Responsibilities
Iterating on and delivering high-quality visual designs for the IBM Quantum website and IBM Quantum Platform, in addition to marketing, social media and editorial content
Leveraging and assisting in the evolution of the IBM Quantum and Qiskit brands
Ensuring designs align with the larger IBM Brand and Carbon Design Systems
Developing original illustration and typography-driven designs that bring clarity, personality, and digestibility to complex topics
Partnering with third-party vendors (agencies, motion studios, printers, fabricators) to deliver high-quality outcomes
Contributing to event design (physical and digital), including environmental graphics, stage visuals, event activations, and presentation materials
Collaborating with UX designers and developers to ensure visual consistency and accessibility of designs, throughout the handover, review and release processes
Produce motion and animation assets for web, presentations, and social channels
Required Technical And Professional Expertise
Strong experience as a visual, graphic, or brand designer creating work for digital products and platforms
Expert-level proficiency in Figma, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop
Exceptional skills in illustration, typography, and composition, with strong attention to detail and a high standard of craft
Ability to translate abstract or complex concepts into clear, engaging visual designs
Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, with strong communication, presentation, and delivery skills
Comfort working with design systems and contributing to their evolution
Preferred Technical And Professional Experience
Experience in designing online user interfaces that enable users to interact with complex technologies
Experience creating animations and motion graphics for digital and presentation use
Experience designing technical or scientific content
Event or environmental design experience
Experience working with external vendors and partners
Good organization and time management skills, with the ability to work with tight deadlines and on multiple projects simultaneously
