WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?
Responsible for acquiring and managing small business and personal relationships within an assigned geography,
working collaboratively with RBC USWM Financial Advisors to deliver the full capabilities of City National Bank. This in-market role requires regular collaboration with RBC USWM Financial Advisors, educating them on our small business capabilities to establish qualified client introductions, providing financial advice to clients and prospects, and connecting client needs with CNB's service and offerings. The role actively engages and builds trust among RBC Wealth Management Financial Advisors and other partners to facilitate consultative introductions to prospective clients. Strong communication and presentation skills are essential, and the ability to engage with clients and internal stakeholders is crucial. The role focuses on educating RBC USWM Financial Advisors on the financial needs of small business owners and CNB's capabilities to lay the foundation for qualified introductions. A defined business development plan, applied consistently, will incorporate disciplined sales and service practices. The focus is on business development with RBC USWM Financial Advisors, acquiring new small business relationships as well as retaining and expanding existing ones, while ensuring exemplary service. Key measures of success include new client acquisitions, growth in deposits and fee income, new lending origination and loan retention (including CRA-eligible fundings), strong risk management, and strong internal referrals and relationships. Must be in good standing under the Safe Act and must be registered/licensed with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry, or be able to register. Acquire and facilitate new small business and personal relationships while managing a portfolio of existing clients to achieve sales goals (deposits, lending and fee income). Manage sales and credit pipelines. Develop a defined strategy for engaging RBC USWM Financial Advisors (and other partners) for client introductions, education and follow-up to ensure fully qualified client introductions. Manage a portfolio of existing clients and actively deepen relationships through cross-selling, often with the RBC USWM Financial Advisor and other SME colleagues. Deliver an exceptional and consistent client experience—ensure client needs are met, escalate issues appropriately, and deliver solutions centered on client needs. Improve sales and banking acumen by developing stronger banking knowledge and sales practices through collaboration with SME colleagues and internal training resources. Capture a holistic view of client needs, draw insights from data to provide sound financial advice, and conduct discovery activities to grow the book (deposits, credit, services). Business and risk management — stay aware of policy updates, operate within lending authorities, ensure decisions align with bank policies, procedures, and regulations, and manage associated risk. Interact professionally with CNB and RBC personnel, clients, and partners to demonstrate commitment to quality client service. Client centricity and relationship management — understand client realities and growth plans, earn trust, and steward the relationship with tailored advice and solutions. Represent the Bank by participating in outside civic and industry activities as appropriate. Comply with Bank operational, credit policies and regulatory requirements (e.g., BSA, KYC, CRA, Fair Lending, Code of Conduct). Responsible for an intermediate to large business banking portfolio with moderate to high complexity and portfolio growth (loans, deposits, fee income). The focus may include maintaining existing customers, new business development, credit judgment, and loan structuring for clients with complex lending needs. Monitor accounts for potential credit problems and ensure proper loan documentation. Portfolio range typically $20-40MM. WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?
Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree or equivalent Minimum 10 years of direct sales experience Minimum 10 years of experience in a financial institution Additional Qualifications Banking products for personal and business clients — deep knowledge of CNB offerings, especially those for small business clients Regulatory/compliance — strong understanding of CNB’s regulatory environment, including CIP and KYC Economic environment — understanding of its impact on clients Business financials — ability to review financial statements to assess a client’s financial health Negotiation — ability to balance bank and client needs while maintaining profitability Policy & procedures — knowledge of CNB’s policies, procedures and regulatory obligations WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?
