Job Summary We are looking for a Technical Writer with hands-on CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) experience to create clear, practical documentation for production-floor use. This role is key to developing work instructions, setup guides, visual aids, and troubleshooting content that support CMM operators and programmers in a precision manufacturing environment.
The ideal candidate understands CMM setup and inspection workflows and can translate complex processes into simple, step-by-step instructions that drive consistency, quality, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Develop high-quality technical documentation for CMM setup, operation, and inspection best practices
Collaborate with CMM operators, programmers, and Quality Engineering to accurately capture procedures
Create visual work instructions using photos, screenshots, and diagrams
Document critical setup elements: fixturing, probing strategies, measurement sequences, and machine parameters
Use hand gauges to measure parts and populate documentation where needed
Transpose CMM inspection reports into required record formats
Standardize templates for CMM procedures, inspection plans, and troubleshooting guides
Ensure documentation complies with GD&T, internal standards, and regulatory requirements
Observe operations on the floor to align documentation with real-world workflows
Support revision control, change management, and ongoing updates to documents
Help promote consistency across shifts and operators through clear, accessible content
Required Qualifications
Practical understanding of CMM operation or setup (e.g., PC-DMIS, Zeiss, Hexagon, Mitutoyo, Calypso, MODUS, or similar)
Proven experience writing technical documentation, SOPs, or work instructions in a manufacturing environment
Ability to capture and create clear visual references (photos, diagrams, annotations)
Familiarity with GD&T and precision measurement principles
Comfortable working alongside operators, programmers, and engineers on the shop floor
Strong written communication skills with attention to structure, clarity, and usability
Due to the nature of the work US Citizenship is required
Preferred Qualifications
Basic knowledge of CMM programming or the ability to interpret CMM programs
Background in Quality, Metrology, or Manufacturing Engineering
Experience with document control systems (QMS, PLM, or similar)
Proficiency with tools for creating diagrams and markup documentation
