
Reporting to the Manager of Communications, this individual will also serve as a key liaison to local schools, nonprofit organizations, civic groups, and Navy Yard stakeholders while playing a vital role in showcasing HPSI's brand, culture, and shipbuilding achievements.
Key Responsibilities:
Social Media Management (40%)
Collaborate with content specialist and designer to develop and schedule compelling, audience-tailored content across LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and X. Write engaging and professional copy to highlight company milestones, talent initiatives, shipbuilding progress, and industry news. Monitor social media activity, respond to engagement, and identify opportunities to expand reach and visibility. Track trends and implement creative approaches to grow brand awareness and digital presence. Talent & Recruiting Communications (30%)
Serve as the primary communications liaison between the Communications team and Talent, Training, and Recruiting, ensuring alignment between workforce priorities and enterprise messaging. Support the development and activation of the company's Employee Value Proposition (EVP) by capturing and promoting authentic employee stories, career pathways, and workplace culture. Leverage recruiting and training content to inform and execute social media and digital content strategies that enhance employer brand visibility and engagement. Collaborate on messaging and materials for workforce development programs and events, including recruiting fairs, training programs, apprenticeships, and school partnerships. Manage communications-related logistics and coordination for onboarding programs, apprenticeship graduations, job fairs, and school engagement activities, ensuring a consistent and professional brand experience. Community Relations Engagement (20%)
Develop and implement HPSI's community engagement strategy aligned with core themes: Sustainability, Talent & Recruiting, and Good Neighbor. Serve as primary contact for local schools, nonprofits, community partners, and chambers of commerce. Organize and manage logistics for volunteer efforts, school visits, and Navy Yard programs. Support HPSI's participation in Navy Yard events and maintain relationships with Navy Yard leadership and partners. Plan and execute HPSI-sponsored events, handling logistics, vendor coordination, setup, and materials. Collaborate with the Communications team to promote community initiatives across internal and external channels. Ad Hoc Communications Support (10%)
Assist with development and distribution of internal communications using the company's internal email platform. Contribute content for internal and external communications such as newsletters, leadership updates, and marketing collateral. Support filming and photography needs for media and promotional use. Required Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field 5-7 years of communications experience; prior experience in a corporate or industrial environment is a plus Strong writing, proofreading, and editorial skills with an eye for detail and tone Professional demeanor with confidence engaging leadership, media, and community stakeholders Highly organized, self-starter with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative mindset Familiarity with social media platforms and analytics tools; experience with content scheduling platforms is a plus Willingness to support occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekend events (at least once a month) Visual storytelling skills (e.g., photography, videography, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) are a strong plus Knowledge of the Philadelphia community and nonprofit ecosystem is preferred Comfortable with hands-on event setup, logistics, and vendor management Proactive communicator with strong writing skills, executive presence, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, corporate environment Able to effectively communicate across all levels of the organization, both verbally and written Adaptability and a solutions-oriented mindset, with the flexibility to pivot quickly in response to shifting priorities or emerging opportunities Passionate about making a difference and improving processes Flexibility is essential A strong grasp of logistics and communication workflows Comfortable working with both internal and external teams, and brings a thoughtful, organized approach to high-visibility engagements Exceptional writing, proofreading, and editorial skills Strong critical thinking skills and ability to work independently as a self-starter Process-oriented, highly organized, and able to manage multiple deadlines Strong interpersonal skills, team orientation, and a collaborative mindset Creative thinking Integrity Willingness and ability to work as a team member
