Summary:
The Estimator for Substation Projects is integral to preparing precise cost estimates for both renewable energy initiatives and utility-owned substations. This role is crucial for ensuring that our bids are accurate, competitive, and timely, leveraging knowledge of construction methodologies, costs, and industry standards.
The scope of projects involves a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to the procurement and installation of temporary construction facilities, project management, structural steel, high voltage bus and fittings, potential transformers and current transformers, arrestors, circuit breakers, switches, concrete foundations, auxiliary AC equipment, power wiring, cable systems, grounding systems, and control buildings. This role may also encompass engineering services, testing, applicable taxes, contingency factors, warranties, and profit margins.
For candidates in the local area, this position will require in-office attendance for 3 days and remote work for 2 days each week.
Requirements:
Ability to manage multiple moderate project estimates simultaneously.
Works effectively under general supervision.
Collaborate with colleagues from other departments to gather essential cost inputs for estimates.
Conduct quantity take-offs from request for proposal (RFP) documents, building full estimates with oversight from senior estimators.
Understand and establish productivity metrics relevant to the estimate.
Solicit, evaluate, and assess the cost-effectiveness of vendor quotes for materials and services.
Work with other estimators to coordinate costs related to various project components.
Direct design and engineering inquiries to the Lead Estimator.
Participate in estimate review processes.
Contribute to the preparation of technical bid documents and the Schedule of Values (SOV), along with clarifications and exclusions.
Maintain regular attendance as expected.
Adhere to the Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct, and Company Policies.

Exemplify a safety and quality-first mindset.
Guide, coach, and mentor junior estimators.
Assist in gathering historical cost data for projects.
Qualifications: High School diploma or GED is required.
An Associate's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field with at least 2 years of industry experience is required.
2 or more years in substation construction estimating experience is preferred.
1 or more years of experience in a field-based construction role is preferred.
Willingness to travel domestically 5 to 15% of the time.
Familiarity with Engineer Procure Construct (EPC) and Balance of Plant (BOP) estimating structures applicable for large utility and renewable energy projects.
Ability to identify and recommend alternative designs and scope definitions that promote standardization and cost efficiency.
Knowledge of processes involved in constructing utility-grade renewable energy projects; experience with Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is highly desirable.
Experience with design-build construction methods and detailed production-based cost estimates.
Capable of completing quantity take-offs from construction plans.
Proficient in estimating software, with HCSS HeavyBid experience preferred.
Proficient in Blue Beam/Adobe for quantity take-offs.
Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, Project, OneNote, Teams) and SharePoint.
Able to assess site conditions through plans and reports, ensuring accurate resource allocation for competitive estimates.
Experience working effectively with clients and subcontractors.
Excellent communication skills to articulate design options clearly.
Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking abilities.
A passion for learning and applying knowledge swiftly.
Ability to work independently and deliver results on time with minimal supervision.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Anticipated Base Salary Range:
