General Description

The Director of Finance is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all financial operations and ensuring the fiscal health and long-term sustainability of our growing Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), with an annual operating budget of approximately $50 million.

This role is ideal for a hands-on, forward-thinking finance leader who thrives in complex, regulated environments and enjoys leading teams through change, and has the technical depth to manage complex accounting, grants, and compliance requirements while driving a major transformation across finance functions including transition from paper-based processes to automation and data-driven financial management.

The Director of Finance will provide strategic financial leadership, strengthen financial systems and controls, and support organizational growth while advancing the mission of the organization.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or related field or equivalent combination of extensive, progressive work experience may be considered in lieu of a formal degree, particularly within healthcare and/or nonprofit settings A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting and finance leadership, preferably in:

FQHCs Healthcare nonprofits Federally funded organizations

Strong technical accounting expertise with hands-on experience. Proven experience with federal and state grant compliance and reporting, and HRSA and Uniform Guidance. Expert-level Excel skills Ability to provide hands-on training, coaching, and change management to support the team towards automation. Working knowledge of FQHC reimbursement, third party billing including medical, dental, and pharmacy. Deep knowledge of healthcare accounting/finance regulatory requirements. Experience with cost allocation methodologies. Proficiency to operate with high accuracy and exceptional attention to detail. Strong technology aptitude and comfort with:

Accounting system configuration and reporting Implementing new modules and functionality Process automation and workflow improvement

Highly organized, detail-driven, and quality-focused. Strong communicator to translate financial data into clear insights. Preferred Qualifications

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) 2-3 years of leadership or management experience Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT and related modules Experience implementing accounting systems or automation initiatives Hands-on experience with AI-enabled finance tools or leading innovation efforts Knowledge of Massachusetts healthcare and nonprofit reporting requirements including Uniform Financial Report (UFR), Uniform Data Systems Report (UDS), Medicaid and Medicare Cost Reporting, IRS Form 990/Massachusetts Form PC, Retirement Plan Audits related to 403b retirement plans. Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Financial Leadership

Act as the CFO's primary operational support across accounting, reporting, budgeting, and compliance Take ownership of day-to-day finance operations while helping to stabilize and rebuild the department Provide clear, accurate, and timely financial information to support executive decision-making Serve as a change leader, helping the team adapt to new systems, processes, and expectations Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting

Lead and actively perform monthly and annual close processes Ensure accurate and timely preparation of: Monthly financial statements Year-end financial statements and supporting schedules Maintain strong internal controls and ensure GAAP compliance Perform detailed reconciliations and reviews with exceptional accuracy and attention to detail Identify and correct inefficiencies, gaps, and risks in current accounting practices Systems, Automation & Technology Leadership (Critical Focus)

Lead the transition from paper-based processes to automated, system-driven workflows Leverage AI tools for financial analysis, reporting, forecasting, controls, and efficiency, or lead innovation efforts in this area Grants Management, Compliance, & Regulatory Reporting

Provide financial oversight for federal and state (Massachusetts) grants Ensure compliance with:

HRSA requirements including the Health Center Program Compliance Manual Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200) Grant-specific terms and conditions

Oversee grant budgeting, tracking, reporting, and reconciliations Partner with program leadership to ensure accurate cost allocation and financial reporting. Lead finance preparation and review of:

UDS (Uniform Data System) UFR (Massachusetts Uniform Financial Report) Medicaid/Medicare Cost reports

Policies, Procedures & Internal Controls

Assist in the development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across accounting/finance functions Review and update accounting policies and procedures Strengthen internal controls, documentation, and audit readiness Team Leadership, Rebuilding & Growth

Assist the CFO with recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and training additional finance staff over time Help design the future-state finance team structure (target size ~10) Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, timeliness, continuous improvement, adaptability and customer service both internally and externally Contracts & Financial Oversight

Review contracts for financial accuracy, compliance, and appropriate accounting treatment Monitor contract budgets and financial performance Support leadership with financial analysis related to contractual obligations Working Conditions:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and writing on a computer. Requirements include lifting and carrying objects weighing 5-20 pounds of average. Frequent standing and walking.

Salary Ranges:

$140,000 to $150,000 annually
