Job Description

Senior Principal UX Designer, AI-forward Design Systems

Role Overview

We're hiring a Principal-level System Designer to operate at the highest level of individual contribution-someone who combines exceptional design craft and taste, deep systems thinking, and an entrepreneurial, experimental approach to AI-enabled products.

This role is for a designer who shapes direction, not just deliverables. You'll define how complex, intelligent systems are conceived, prototyped, and evolved-setting standards for quality, coherence, and ambition across products. You thrive in ambiguity, lead through making and thinking, and treat experimentation as a first-class design discipline.

What You'll Do

Own and evolve foundational systems: design systems, interaction models, AI workflows, and product architectures that scale across teams and products

Set a high bar for design craft and taste, influencing visual language, interaction quality, and experiential coherence across the organization

Design for intelligent, adaptive systems, including human-AI collaboration patterns, automation, and emergent behaviors

Lead complex, ambiguous initiatives end-to-end as a senior IC-framing problems, proposing bold directions, and driving execution

Prototype rapidly and strategically to explore ideas, de-risk decisions, and unlock new product opportunities

Partner deeply with product, engineering, and research leaders to shape product vision and long-term strategy

Act as a thought partner and mentor to other designers, raising system literacy and craft quality without formal management responsibility

Influence how design is practiced: tools, methods, principles, and the role of experimentation in product development

Responsibilities

What You Bring

10+ years of experience in system design, product design, or experience design, with a portfolio demonstrating strategic impact and exceptional craft

Proven ability to design complex systems, not just interfaces-across products, platforms, or ecosystems

Distinguished visual and interaction taste, with the ability to articulate why something works (or doesn't)

Hands-on experience designing or prototyping AI-driven or algorithmic experiences, or a strong experimental practice in this space

Entrepreneurial mindset: self-directed, opportunity-driven, and comfortable operating without tight briefs

Comfort working at multiple altitudes-from abstract system models to pixel- and interaction-level refinement

Strong communication skills: you can clearly explain systems, tradeoffs, and vision to senior stakeholders

A track record of influence as a senior IC-your work shapes direction, standards, and outcomes beyond your immediate scope

What Success Looks Like

Our systems feel coherent, intentional, and scalable, even as products and teams grow

AI features feel human-centered, understandable, and meaningfully integrated-not bolted on

Design quality and craft visibly level up across teams

Experiments lead to real insights, not just artifacts

Teams move faster with more confidence because the system foundations are strong

Why This Role Is Special

Principal-level impact without people management

High trust, high autonomy, high expectations

Space to explore and define what AI-native design systems should become

A chance to shape not just products-but future design methods and processes for the evolving UX discipline
