Overview
Salary range: $67,500 - $77,500
Location: If hired, you must reside in the Chicagoland area.
Primary purpose: Provides editorial support for a variety of SCCM materials. Develops and monitors editorial style, copyediting standards, proofreading procedures, and related issues.
Responsibilities
Editorial Services for SCCM Content
- Copyedits and proofreads all SCCM member communications.
- Copyedits education and sponsorship materials for SCCM’s annual meeting.
- Copyedits other SCCM educational content.
- Copyedits executive, legal, human resource, and other administrative materials.
- Copyedits grant proposals, funding requests, letters of intent, event agendas, and research materials.
- Copyedits SCCM guidelines, as needed, and proofreads guideline materials for dissemination across delivery formats.
Editorial Style
- Coordinates house style guides with various users, updating style when needed.
- Serves as resource for staff and external freelancers in matters of medical terminology and style.
- Participates in Council of Science Editors and other professional industry groups.
- Keeps abreast of trends in general and scientific editing.
SCCM Archiving
- Updates the SCCM’s archival database, ensuring that SCCM historical materials are catalogued appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Assists with proper storage, preservation, and organization of physical archival material.
- Ensures that SCCM archiving procedures and standards are followed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or other liberal arts field
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and interact professionally and tactfully in sensitive situations
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Excellent writing, grammar, editing, and proofreading skills
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Advanced knowledge of latest edition of AMA Manual of Style
- Knowledge of database management
- Knowledge of the biological sciences, with emphasis on medicine and medical terminology preferred
- Association experience preferred
