Responsibilities
Establish and maintain a therapeutic milieu within the classroom that is responsive to individual and collective student needs and promotes learning of socially acceptable behaviors.
Assess academic abilities of each student; develop and implement effective curricula to meet identified educational needs and goals in accordance with South Dakota guidelines. Supervise the completion of IEPs and lesson plans in a thorough and timely manner.
Provide direction and support to assigned teachers and aides; assure consistency of approach and effective functioning of classroom team. Integrate classroom efforts with those of other treatment team members.
Enable parents and other significant adults to become constructively involved in each student’s educational/treatment plan.
Maintain thorough and timely documentation of student attendance, classroom behavior, significant incidents, and academic progress. Assure timely and accurate communication of information regarding student functioning.
Assure adequacy and security of classroom supplies.
Qualifications
South Dakota Special Education Teacher endorsement.
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Strong interpersonal skills in dealing effectively with all levels of personnel and external constituencies.
Pertinent experience and training for work with emotionally, socially, and behaviorally handicapped students.
