The Assistant Technical Designer plays a critical role in supporting the technical design process by helping ensure garments meet Weissman’s fit, construction, and quality standards. This position partners closely with the Senior Technical Designer to prepare for and attend daily fittings, document detailed fit notes and photos, and assist in the development and review of fit comments prior to vendor communication. Through precise garment measurements and careful evaluation against technical specifications, this role helps maintain consistency and accuracy throughout the product development lifecycle. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career technical design professional who is detail-oriented, organized, and eager to grow within a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The ideal candidate has a foundational understanding of garment construction and fabric, is comfortable working in Adobe Illustrator, and can adapt quickly to shifting priorities while maintaining accountability and professionalism. Prepare for and attend daily fit sessions, capturing detailed notes and photographs Measure garments accurately and evaluate fit and construction against technical packages Assist in setting up fit comments and organizing photos for Senior Technical Designer review Support the preparation of vendor communication following fit approvals Maintain consistent fit standards as established by Weissman Track and manage fit documentation to ensure accuracy and version control Maintain professional, timely, and clear email correspondence with vendors Partner closely with cross-functional teams within Product Development Proactively identify and escalate urgent fit or construction issues as needed Adapt to changing priorities while meeting deadlines and maintaining attention to detail Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Product Development, or a related field OR equivalent experience Less than one year of technical design experience General understanding of the design and product development process Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator Basic understanding of fabric and garment construction Familiarity with PDM/PLM or other specification systems preferred Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize effectively, and remain composed under pressure Proactive problem-solving mindset with accountability for results Benefits
