
Director of School Security and Safety/SPRO(.50 FTE)

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Oversight of SRO/SPRO program/staff.
Responsible for emergency response training for all District employees and students.
Responsible for review and updates to emergency management plans districtwide.
Liaison to law enforcement regarding criminal intelligence which may impact student safety and campus operations.
Support for building administrators within critical incidents and appropriation of resources for response.
Oversight, coordination, and training of threat detection systems.
Assist in comprehensive review of all new building requests for additional security surveillance camera installations and justification of assignment of assets.
Review and approval of video surveillance footage requests, including law enforcement requests.
Assist in the review of all new building requests for additional access control equipment installations and justification of assignment of assets.
Coordinate and support training of visitor protocol.
Response to all law enforcement situations within any District school
Review and assist in the updating of the District Emergency Operations Plan annually.
Review of volunteer procedures related to background screening of applicants.
Lead and coordinate for the District in the enforcement of regulations and statutes pertaining to safety within the laws of the State of New York.
District representative for the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office, Safe Schools Information Coalition, facilitating the flow of information for student safety.
Assist in management and procurement of security/safety equipment.
May lead and coordinate emergency communications with the Onondaga County 911 Center.
Conduct and assist in debrief of district incidents.
Assist in the management and procurement of all District two-way portable radios, with FCC licensing protocols and compliance.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Good knowledge of regulations and statutes pertaining to safety within the laws of the State of New York
Good knowledge of the practices and procedures necessary to maintain order and ensure the protection of life and security of buildings, grounds and equipment.
Good knowledge of safety procedures necessary to eliminate or prevent accidents and safety hazards.
Working knowledge of vehicular traffic control activities in parking lots and access roads.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in carrying out security duties.
Ability to carry out oral and written directions.
Ability to act quickly, efficiently and calmly in stressful situations.
Ability to plan and supervise the work of a security staff.
Ability to understand and deal effectively with students, faculty, parents, administration, outside agencies and others.
Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
Prior supervisory experience preferred.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (As determined by Onondaga County Civil Service) Promotion Two (2) years of permanent competitive class status as an Assistant Director of School Security and Safety.
Open Competitive A.
Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees, with an Associate’s Degree or higher in criminal justice or police science and three(3) years of experience, or its part time law enforcement officer or security officer/guard (registered by New York State Department of Criminal Justice), one (1) year of which must have included the supervision of multiple security staff personnel; or,
B.
Five (5) years of experience time equivalent, as a law enforcement officer or security officer/guard (registered by New York State Department of Criminal Justice), one (1) year of which must have included the supervision of multiple security; or,
C.
An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
