The Assistant Director of Programming ( ADPRO ) reports to the Vice President for Humanism (VP-OH). The Assistant Director serves as a key member of the Office of Humanism, assists, and supports the Vice-President in successfully operationalizing the Office of Humanism mission, vision, and strategic actions. The Assistant Director will collaboratively develop, establish, and implement an annual calendar of cultural programming and signature events for the university community that educates, informs, and celebrates humanism, identities, and cultures at WesternU. The Assistant Director will create periodic, inclusive opportunities and events for all members of the university community to enhance intercultural learning, and relations that actualize WesternU’s commitment to humanism. The Assistant Director will initiate and sustain professional, advisory partnerships and supportive relationships with students and student leaders from all cultural and identity focused organizations at WesternU. The Assistant Director will be primarily responsible for all daily operations and programming in the Center for Humanism. The Assistant Director will actively engage in establishing the Center as a student-centric emergent space to meet, learn, educate, build community and experience well-being. The Assistant Director interacts and engages with surrounding communities and community organizations to develop professional relationships, participate in, represent, liaise, coordinate, and lead collaborative activities on behalf of the Office of Humanism. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The Assistant Director must be able to demonstrate and sustain the following skills, capacities, competencies, and knowledge for performing the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using any relevant, alternative combinations of the same. Comprehensive operations and program management knowledge and competence, including project planning, implementation, execution, assessment, resource setup, management, tracking, and reporting. Knowledge of student development principles and practices relevant to humanistic practices, cultures, identities, and backgrounds in higher education. Primarily responsible for all university-wide (Pomona and Lebanon campuses) programming originating from the Office of Humanism including an annual signature series of cultural and learning events. Primarily responsible for the daily operational management of the Center for Humanism on the Pomona campus and its activities. Primarily responsible for successfully planning, promoting, publicizing, executing, assessing, and reporting on all Humanism related programming and events on behalf of the Office. Primarily responsible for supporting all student-centered humanism and intercultural engagement opportunities, events, programs, consultations, collaborations, relations, activities, services, advice, planning, and implementation support. Primarily responsible for successfully achieving all applicable Goals of the WesternU Initiatives and Strategies for Humanism ( WISH ) 2025-2027 Plan Phase-I as tasked by the VP for Humanism. Represents the Office of Humanism in building relationships and collaborations with surrounding communities and community organizations, participates in, leads, coordinates, and assists with humanism related community events and engagement opportunities. Primarily responsible for coordinating humanism and cultural programming, events, opportunities, and collaborations with the respective College Humanism Officers ( CHO ) in Pomona and Lebanon. Primarily accountable for documenting, evaluating, analyzing, assessing and reporting on all activities related to primary responsibilities, preparing periodic formative and summative progress reports. Primarily responsible for initiating, developing, and sustaining professional relationships with the Student Government Association leadership, relevant registered student organizations, clubs and student representatives for cultural programs and event collaborations and accountable for providing event planning and support services where and when needed.
