Location: Hybrid (remote/onsite) with minimum required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to One Energy Plaza located in Jackson, MI. The candidate must be within a commutable distance to the location or willing to relocate (relocation package is available to those who qualify).

THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a leadership role at a pivotal moment as the People function strengthens its foundation, builds its brand, and evolves toward an agile delivery system.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Partner closely with the Chief People Officer and People Leadership Team to translate enterprise strategy into clear priorities, disciplined sequencing, and trusted delivery.
  • Lead cross‑functional teams that design and execute enterprise‑wide people initiatives, ensuring alignment with business performance, workforce readiness, and value creation.
  • Develop and maintain a single, trusted source of truth for people data, supporting data‑driven decision making across the organization.
  • Design and implement governance, decision rights, and workflows that improve consistency, accountability, and leader experience.
  • Build the People brand across the company by modeling calm, grounded leadership, identifying and delivering upskilling and development programs, and fostering collaboration with HR and business partners.
  • Contribute to the evolution of the People operating model, becoming a key driver in shaping how CMS Energy.

What We’re Looking For

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in people strategy, HR transformation, workforce planning, or organizational effectiveness at the enterprise level.
  • Strong analytical and systems thinking capabilities, with the ability to translate insight into action.
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with senior leaders on strategic, operational, and people‑related topics.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and evolving environments, and able to build trust through consistency and delivery.
  • Leadership ability to coach, inspire, and develop teams with clarity and integrity.

What This Role Is Not

  • It is not a purely conceptual strategy role.
  • It is not a “fix it fast” turnaround mandate.
  • It is not focused solely on launching programs or activity alone but on sustained credibility and enterprise impact.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 8+ years’ progressive experience in people strategy, HR transformation, workforce planning, organizational effectiveness or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience operating at the enterprise level.
  • Strong analytical and systems thinking capabilities.
  • Experience partnering with Senior Leaders on strategic, operational and people related topics.
  • Experience leading and developing teams through clear direction and coaching.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting large‑scale transformation, operating model design, or HR modernization efforts.
  • Familiarity with HR systems, analytics platforms, and workforce data concepts.
  • Experience in regulated, capital‑intensive, or highly operational environments.
  • Familiarity with lean operating systems and concepts.

Over time, this role will help establish People Strategy as a disciplined, reliable operating capability that enables CMS Energy’s long‑term success.
