Overview The Camp Director is responsible for delivering a dynamic early childhood summer camp program that lives up to the high reputation of Green Trees Early Childhood Village. The camp enrolls 70-90 campers per session and employs up to 30 faculty and Newman Plus staff. The Camp Director assumes the role of 'Staff In Charge' per Louisiana State Department for Education Licensing Regulations and will ensure the care of every camper by following all Newman guidelines and professional standards in an appropriately interactive and engaging learning environment. This person should have excellent interpersonal skills to plan and lead the camp, safely manage children and meet their individual needs, proactively guide and supervise camp staff, engage with parents, take direction, receive feedback, and be team orientated.

Responsibilities Prior to the start of camp:

Prepare the overall schedule, daily routines for each age group, including before and after care, and special events.

Assign camp staff to age groups, activities, front desk person, before and after care and create homerooms for children in conjunction with the Green Trees Directors and Newman Plus Director.

Determine and order all the supplies necessary for camp and remain within set budget parameters.

Understand daily camp operations, lines of communication with Green Trees Directors, Newman Plus Office, Facilities Department, Health Center team to ensure all constituents are on the same page regarding facilities use and camp community safety.

Work with Green Trees Administrative Assistant and Sage Dining to plan and deliver camper lunches and snacks.

Be fluent in policies and procedures for elevated states, loss of power, inclement weather, sickness and behavior issues.

Answer parent questions by email or phone as needed in a timely manner.

Follow camp orientation plan and work with the Green Trees Directors in leading the staff orientation and training.

Lead the setup of camp learning environments, including homerooms, adventure rooms, and decoration of the facilities.

During camp:

Provide overall leadership and high-visibility presence for the camp program, setting the standard for professional boundaries, healthy relationships, and positive camp culture among campers, families, and staff.

Oversee campers' health, safety, and social-emotional well-being, ensuring licensing protocols are followed and collaborating with directors to address concerns as they arise.

Uphold quality expectations through observations of practice, providing feedback, and supporting instructors with curriculum implementation and instructional effectiveness.

Communicate proactively with families—both collectively and individually—regarding camp logistics, expectations, updates, and camper-related needs.

Plan, facilitate, and support special events and spontaneous programming that enhance the camp experience.

Manage operational systems and logistics, including Brightwheel oversight, weekly blog/photo gallery updates, supply and snack ordering (with prior approval), and daily staffing, including before and after care coverage.

Post camp:

Lead the packing and storage of all camp equipment and materials.

Reset all facilities to how they were found before the start of camp.

Report and attend to any broken equipment or damaged facilities.

Wrap-up all camp communications external and internal.

Debrief with the Green Trees Directors and Newman Plus.

Additional Notes

Seasonal summer position

March & April: up to 4 hours per week

May: up to 8 hours per week

June / July: minimum of 50 hours per week of camp, which could include after-hours communication with families and staff
