Touchstone Group Construction is seeking a skilled Sander / Painter to support high-quality residential and commercial construction and remodeling projects in the Chicago area. This role is ideal for a professional finisher who understands that proper surface preparation and attention to detail are essential to delivering exceptional results. We run organized job sites with clear scopes, realistic schedules, and a strong emphasis on craftsmanship, safety, and professionalism.
Responsibilities
Surface Preparation
Prepare surfaces for paint or finish by sanding, scraping, patching, caulking, and priming
Repair drywall imperfections, nail holes, seams, cracks, and minor surface defects
Mask, cover, and protect floors, fixtures, cabinetry, windows, and adjacent finishes
Ensure all surfaces are clean, smooth, and properly prepped prior to painting
Painting & Finishing
Apply paint, stains, sealers, and coatings using brushes, rollers, and sprayers as required
Perform interior and exterior painting with consistent coverage, clean lines, and uniform finishes
Match colors, textures, and finishes per plans, specifications, or direction
Complete detailed finish and touch‑up work during final project stages
Jobsite & Quality Responsibilities
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite at all times
Follow project schedules and complete work efficiently without compromising quality
Identify surface or substrate issues and communicate them proactively to supervisors
Protect completed work and client property throughout the project duration
Professional Standards
Follow company safety policies and OSHA guidelines
Coordinate work with other trades to ensure proper sequencing
Represent Touchstone Group Construction professionally with clients, inspectors, and team members
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of professional sanding and painting experience
Strong understanding of proper surface preparation, priming, and painting techniques
Experience with interior and exterior finishes
Ability to produce clean, consistent, and detail‑oriented work
Familiarity with common painting tools, materials, and equipment
Reliable transportation to job sites throughout the Chicago area
Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical work for extended periods
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with high‑end residential or commercial finish work
Familiarity with spray applications and specialty coatings
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Strong eye for detail and finish quality
Experience working on occupied or client‑facing job sites
