
Business Manager, Debit Network and Portfolio Strategy

Overview
As a Business Manager at Capital One, you will apply your strategic and analytical skills to major company challenges. The Debit Strategy Team is a collaborative and energetic group of analysts who are responsible for monitoring and amplifying our debit business; we do so by creating new debit Customers and deepening engagement among existing Customers. Debit is one of the largest revenue drivers in the bank and is expected to grow significantly in the coming years. We represent this debit performance across the organization.
Responsibilities
Analysis: Identify business challenges and opportunities for improvement and solve them using analysis to make strategic or tactical recommendations. Utilizing SQL to organize data with clarity is critical, but it is essential to be able to efficiently determine how to wield building scripts in the context of the business needs; what is the best way to evaluate an A/B test? Where is there meaningful separation between performance across various segments? What are the drivers behind the trends we observe? What insights should we strive to uncover for a given analysis? What are the key components for a specific business case? We strive to curate comprehensive analytics out of white-space problems and needs that ultimately enhance the debit business.
Product: Perform modeling/analytics to develop new product strategies.
Marketing: Support direct-to-consumer marketing/communication efforts for select products, and strategic intent for products distributed through the retail channel. Help build targeted insights to inform the design and development of new customer experiences, as well as breakthrough technology and concepts designed to deliver on new go to market strategies.
Execution: Involve problem frame-works, develop hypotheses, test and analysis, solution development, scope operational feasibility, lead implementation efforts and develop a monitoring plan.
Partnership: Work closely with colleagues across Capital One including: Product, Operations, Finance, Customer Protection, and others to drive improvement in quality, volume, service, and profitability.
Strategic &analytic orientation: A proven track record of decision making and problem solving based on analytics. Conceptual thinking skills must be complemented by a strong quantitative orientation, given that a large part of the business is based on rigorous analytic marketing & credit risk management.
Strong business judgment, leadership and integrity: He/she should be a tenacious decision maker, able to bring a healthy, aggressive, yet responsible approach to business.
Strong communication skills: Impeccable written and oral communication credentials, coupled with strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through intellect, interpersonal and negotiation skills. Strong, clear, and meaningful insights in-hand, the next step is creating a simple, succinct, and powerful narrative. Storytelling is critical in this role as we are consistently disseminating the state of the debit business, providing analytical updates to partners and stakeholders, and influencing a broad cut of the organization with regard to recommended initiatives. Doing this effectively requires the ability to take extensive analytical insights and distill them into a simple, digestible narrative that hits the salient points for a given audience.
Presentation Skills: With a story in-hand, the candidate should be comfortable presenting in various forums - from office hours with senior leaders to broad share-outs across the organization, a candidate with the ability to speak to their storyline articulately, with clarity, and with the understanding of the "why" behind the their work will be positioned for success.
Clear results orientation: Display an intense focus on achieving both short and long term goals. He/she should be able to drive and execute an agenda in an uncertain and fluid environment.
Successful track record of thriving in a fast paced, entrepreneurial and dynamic environment. Previous consulting experience is a plus.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in any quantitative field (Business, Math, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Science, Engineering)
At least 2 years of experience in analysis
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Business or quantitative field such as Finance, Economics, Physical Sciences, Math, Statistics, Engineering
5+ years of experience in analysis
2+ years of experience in financial services
1+ year of experience in consulting
2+ years of experience in people management

Compensation and Additional Information The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated. Locations include McLean, VA; Richmond, VA; Wilmington, DE. Actual salary is offered at hire and may vary by location. This role is eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives.
McLean, VA: $164,800 - $188,100 for Business Manager
Richmond, VA: $149,800 - $171,000 for Business Manager
Wilmington, DE: $149,800 - $171,000 for Business Manager
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range for that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered will be reflected in the offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn incentives, which may include cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives.
