Overview

The Virginia Film Festival (VAFF) and Virginia Theatre Festival (VTF) seek a full-time Marketing Manager. The position shapes and executes the marketing and promotional strategy for both Festivals. It will help conceptualize, pitch, and create promotional content across social media, e-newsletters, and websites, as well as lead advertising, targeted marketing, and PR campaigns. The role works with leadership to maximize marketing and communications in support of sponsors, partners, community outreach, and engagement initiatives. The position reports to the VAFF/VTF Managing Director. Now in its 39th year, the Virginia Film Festival is widely recognized as a leading regional film festival in America and is known for engaging audiences beyond the screen with important issues. The Virginia Theatre Festival presents an annual summer festival of musicals, classic works, and new plays for Charlottesville, Albemarle, and UVA communities.

Job Responsibilities

Work with leadership to create a mission-driven, creative, welcoming, and consistent brand strategy across all marketing and communications streams.

Create and curate content across a variety of platforms to increase engagement, attendance, and brand recognition.

Collaborate with leadership and fundraising staff to align marketing and communications with fundraising, donor engagement, sponsorships, partnerships, and community outreach.

Foster and maintain relationships with partners across UVA and Charlottesville-area groups, individuals, and businesses.

Oversee local and non-local media and community engagement partnerships.

Lead and oversee all advertising campaigns (print, web, radio, TV); responsibilities include reserving ad space, copy/script writing, project management, graphic design, submission, ROI analysis, archiving, and related tasks.

Manage social media and email marketing campaigns, content, and calendar.

Create social media and marketing content, including video and photo editing, graphic design, and copywriting.

Write, edit, and distribute press releases and media alerts.

Assist in organizing and scheduling press conferences, photo shoots, live remotes, and interviews.

Support media relations, and credentials, and other PR needs.

Maintain up-to-date, accurate, and user-friendly websites and web presence.

Support the production of branded event signage/displays, pre-event video content, and more.

Oversee ticket buyer communications, patron communications, and audience surveys.

Research, write, and proof copy for event blurbs, artist bios, and other promotional copy.

Represent Festivals at events, fairs, community events, and other promotional opportunities.

Monitor ticket sales, attendance, and survey data; produce post-season impact reports.

Supervise seasonal marketing support staff and UVA student interns.

Required

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, arts administration, or a related degree.

At least three years of relevant experience.

Strong skills in social media and email marketing; good design aesthetics are a plus.

Exceptional attention to detail, time management, communication, and organizational skills.

Ability to solve problems and manage competing priorities effectively.

Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends for events.

Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

Preferred

A self-starter with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.

Working knowledge of Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, and other design/photo editing tools.

Experience promoting arts and cultural events and creating engaging promotional content and campaigns.

Experience in community engagement and partnership building.

Proficiency with Outlook, Excel, shared calendaring, and other collaboration tools.

Knowledge of UVA and local communities and the broader arts and cultural scene.

Passion for the arts, particularly theatre and film.

About The Position The anticipated start date is April 2026. This position is in-person and located in Charlottesville, VA. It is an exempt-level, benefited position. This position will not sponsor immigration applications. This is a restricted position dependent upon project need, funding availability, and performance. Anticipated Hiring Range: $55,000-$65,000, commensurate with education and experience. The role is primarily sedentary with extensive desk work and may require occasional travel for meetings and programs.
