Overview

The NYC Mayor’s Office of Equity & Racial Justice (MOERJ) was established in October 2023 as the City of New York’s centralized agency to advance equity. Our mandate is rooted in a belief that every New Yorker deserves the chance to live, work, and thrive with dignity. MOERJ brings together several initiatives and offices, including the NYC Commission on Gender Equity (CGE), NYC Her Future (NHF), the NYC Young Men’s Initiative (YMI), the NYC Unity Project (UP), and cross‑agency bodies like the NYC Pay Equity Cabinet (PEC) and the NYC Taskforce on Racial Inclusion & Equity (TRIE). The agency aims to create a unified framework for addressing inequity in daily life. Responsibilities

Work in partnership to plan, conceptualize, and lead all graphic design and creative content, including: New/Digital/Social Media: Carousel graphics, logo creation, newsletter templates, site designs, infographics, simplified motion graphics (e.g. GIFs), toolkits, quote cards, profile avatars, cover images, online ads, illustrations, PowerPoint templates, etc. Traditional Media: Onsite signage, takeaway collateral, flyers, one sheets, invitations, brand guides, OOH, graphic murals, advertising furniture, promotional items, etc. Help produce and manage creative content for activations across owned media channels in static or animated/motion/video formats. Serve as a thought‑partner, regularly brainstorming and proposing new ideas, concepts, and design solutions. Assist on all marketing, creative and design initiatives, and perform other duties incidental to the role. Build strong relationships across the city, working closely with other Agency graphic designers and creative teams. Elevated graphic and motion design skills including: Motion: Logo animations, cinemographs, animated chyrons, animated illustrations, etc. Illustration: Analog drawing, painting and digital drawing skills; developing rough drafts, storyboards, and design frameworks; creating full illustrations by combining painting, hand‑drawn and digital assets. CAD experience is a plus. About You

Five to seven (5–7) years of graphic design experience. Compelling portfolio of work across a wide range of creative projects. Bachelor’s degree with a major in fine or graphic arts, design, new media, or related field. Strong knowledge of layout, design fundamentals, typography, print, motion. Strong illustration skills a plus. Strong ability to collaborate and take direction; ability to work independently on developing designs. Experience in visual (graphic, type, logo creation, etc.), illustration, social/digital content, motion creative, or UX/UI site design. Proficiency with current design tools (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects, Keynote; Harmony, C4D, Blender are ideal but not required). Strong design fundamentals and a creatively varied skill set. Analytical, agile, and able to adapt to shifting priorities. Creative thinker with the ability to brainstorm and think outside the box. Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively across agency levels and offices. Commitment to learning new creative platforms or project management systems. Passion for advancing equity and addressing disparities; understanding of diversity and inclusion. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Salary

The City of New York Mayor’s Office of Equity & Racial Justice offers a market-competitive salary and benefits. The cash compensation range for this role is $75,000–$85,000. Final offers vary based on candidate experience and other factors. To Apply
