Job Summary The Supplier Diversity Outreach Specialist operationalizes key processes and activities that grow relationships with small and diverse owned businesses with the intent to expand the MBTA’s supplier diversity program. The role coordinates agency-wide efforts and carries out functions that advance the supplier diversity program.
Duties & Responsibilities Core Program Support
Collaborate with the Procurement Data Team to track, measure, report and evaluate contractual Supplier Diversity Program (SDP) commitments.
Conduct monthly monitoring and entry of payments within the B2Gnow compliance monitoring system for non-federal SDP contracts to ensure compliance with Supplier Diversity reporting requirements.
Act as an internal resource and subject matter expert for all B2Gnow inquiries from internal stakeholders, prime contractors, and subcontractors for non-federal supplier diversity opportunities and contracts.
Manage and support internal Supplier Diversity events, including event focus, logistics, and marketing.
Benchmark industry best practices in supplier diversity programs and implement appropriate practices into MBTA supplier diversity strategy.
Develop and maintain Supplier Diversity resources and tools for both internal staff and external vendors to ensure consistent understanding and compliance.
Work with internal business stakeholders to develop and meet the supplier diversity program participation for non-federal opportunities.
Outreach & Engagement
Develop and identify vendor/supplier sources and fairs to ensure a diverse vendor pool is developed for the organization to market opportunities.
Engage directly with suppliers/vendors who are not meeting SDP commitments to address barriers and develop corrective action plans.
Raise awareness of MBTA Supplier Diversity program through activities such as:
Outreach activities with small and diverse suppliers.
Research and prepare lists of qualified and certified diverse businesses including Minority and Women-Owned, LGBTQ-owned, Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned businesses, for procurement purposes or to connect potential subcontractors and suppliers with prime contractors and grantees.
As needed, steward and be resourceful to small and diverse companies and suppliers to ensure successful engagements and relationships.
Participate in outreach and relationship development activities regionally.
Partner with peer state or municipal government agencies and community organizations to promote upcoming contracting opportunities to increase diverse prime and subprime participation.
Identify qualified, prospective small and diverse suppliers and facilitate introductory discussions internally.
Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.
Supervision
No direct reports.
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
Four (4) years of Supplier Diversity experience in a private, public, government setting.
Knowledge of the sourcing and procurement process and experience with supplier relationship management activities.
Competency with MS Office Suite (Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Strong analytical skills.
Experience in working within a matrixed environment with project management and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and to prioritize work assignments.
Ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce.
Substitutions Include
A High School Diploma or GED with an additional seven (7) years of directly related experience substitutes for the bachelor’s degree requirement.
An associate degree from an accredited institution with an additional three (3) years of directly related experience substitutes for the bachelor’s degree requirement.
A master’s degree in a related subject substitutes for two (2) years of general experience.
A nationally recognized certification, or statewide/professional certification in a related field substitutes for one year of experience.
Preferred Experience And Required Skills
MBA from an accredited institution.
Seven (7) years’ experience in Supplier Diversity in private, public, or government settings.
High motivation and results-oriented work ethic.
Job Conditions
Ability to read, comprehend, communicate, and respond to instructions in English.
Be at least eighteen (18) years of age, unless participating in an approved high school internship/co-op program.
Ability to commute to assigned work locations in the Boston, MA metro area, as required by the role.
Ability to provide courteous and professional experiences to internal and external customers.
Ability to work effectively, independently, and as part of a diverse workforce team (or supervise, if required).
Ability to uphold MBTA policies, including EEO, anti-discrimination, anti-harassment, and anti-retaliation policies.
Must pass CORI and other background screenings as applicable.
Ability to work across shifts or locations as needed, including potential extended hours for emergencies or severe weather.
