Welder

The welder performs all welding activities on midstream oil & gas pipeline projects, ensuring all welds meet client specifications, regulatory requirements, and industry codes. This role coordinates closely with the Pipeline Foreman to maintain production, quality, and safety. Primary responsibilities include: Operating welding equipment in a safe and controlled manner. Maintaining proper awareness when working around personnel, utilities, and active work zones. Excavation of trenches to the correct depth, width, slope, and alignment per project drawings. Assisting with ditch prep, bedding, bell holes, tie-in digs, and bore pit excavation. Grading and maintaining right-of-way surfaces for equipment access and safety. Supporting welding, coating, and crew activities by positioning pipe and materials as directed. Conducting daily pre-checks and walkarounds (fluids, tracks, hoses, controls, safety systems). Reporting equipment defects, leaks, alarms, or mechanical issues immediately. Keeping equipment clean, fueled, greased, and properly maintained throughout the day. Preventing damage to equipment, property, and underground utilities. Following all OSHA, company, and client safety procedures, including spotter communication, trench safety, equipment exclusion zones, rigging standards, load handling and securement. Maintaining constant situational awareness when working near ground personnel. Attending daily JSAs, toolbox talks, and hazard assessments. Working closely with Foreman, labor hands, welder helpers, to maintain smooth workflow. Receiving direction clearly and adjusting welding operations based on field conditions. Achieving required welding production rates. Maintaining consistent weld qualityline-up, spacing, alignment, pre-heats. Coordinating with pipe handling, and skidding, as needed. Ensuring minimal rework and welds rejects by maintaining accuracy and precision. Performing tie-in welding and specialty welds. Ensuring proper alignment and gap tolerance before welding starts. Performing critical welds requiring specialty processes or advanced skills. Supervisory responsibilities include: Directing and supervising all welders, welder helpers, and welding support personnel. Education and/or experience: High school diploma or equivalent. 7+ years pipeline welding experience. Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Strong knowledge of API 1104, ASME codes, WPS/PQR compliance, and NDE methods. Ability to read isometric drawings, weld maps, and project specifications. Proven success performing high-production welding on midstream projects. Strong communication skills and a professional relationship with inspectors. High commitment to safety, quality, and production standards. Ability to pass welder qualification testing.
