Cool Kids Summer Camp Staff
Calvert County Parks and Recreation is looking for energetic and confident staff members who have a passion for working with children for our Cool Kids Summer Camp. Cool Kids Camp is a seven-week program operating Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from June 15th through June 18th for orientation, and June 22nd through August 7th for regular camp sessions. Staff are required to report to their assigned camp locations by 7:30 a.m. each day for preparation and daily briefings. Chosen candidates are expected to commit to and work the entire seven-week program. The camp serves children 6-11 years old, with a maximum enrollment of 45 campers per week. Camp locations include: Northeast Community Center (4075 Gordon Stinnett Ave, Chesapeake Beach, MD) Plum Point Elementary School (1245 Plum Point Rd, Huntingtown, MD) Calvert Middle School (655 Chesapeake Blvd, Prince Frederick, MD) Southern Middle School (9615 H.G Trueman Rd, Lusby, MD) While location preferences will be considered, final location assignments are based on department needs and staff fit. This is a summer position in the Department of Parks & Recreation. The incumbent reports to Recreation Coordinator and/or Assistant Recreation Coordinator. The work involves teaching and planning activities within a prescribed recreation interest area. Essential Job Functions
Organizes and directs a complete summer camp program at a local school site or community center. Develops and maintains a daily schedule of arts and crafts, games, sports, and trips for youth. Supervises and leads participants in scheduled activities. Supervises and directs the work of paid and volunteer aides. Maintains records of daily attendance and completes required forms and submits to the supervisor. Other Job Duties
Performs any other duties as assigned which relate to successful operation of a camp program. Performs related work as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of-- Camp programs. Ability to-- Organize and supervise work of others. Read and write. Prepare accurate records. Interact well with children. Maintain good working relationships with parents, community and co-workers. Deal effectively with the public. Required Qualifications
Training and/or Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent. Experience: Experience working with elementary age children. Licenses or Certificates: None Special Requirements: Subject to a background investigation. Must be 18 years of age. Must have the ability and willingness to obtain CPR certification post-employment provided by the County. Physical Demands
Work requires strenuous physical effort to perform manual work involving walking over rough, uneven terrain, repeated bending, climbing, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or lifting objects up to 50 pounds. Unusual Demands: Some work is performed in outdoor environments and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, uneven terrain, and natural elements. The position requires the ability to lead and actively participate in physical activities, including walking, standing for extended periods, lifting, and other movements associated with program or operational needs. Duties may include participating in and supervising swimming and water-based activities, which requires the ability to enter and exit the water, remain in the water for extended periods, and respond to emergency situations as necessary.
