Job Title
Interventional Radiology Technologist Job Summary
The Interventional Radiology (IR) Technologist performs interventional radiology procedures on ambulatory and hospital patients under the supervision of a radiologist. The IR Technologist ensures accurate imaging, patient safety, and procedural efficiency while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in a high-acuity environment. Key Responsibilities
Perform high-quality IR procedures according to established exam protocols
Prepare patients and procedure areas, including positioning, immobilization, and equipment setup
Communicate effectively with patients and families, explaining procedures and ensuring patient comfort
Follow safety, infection-control, and sterile technique protocols during invasive procedures
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot imaging equipment, collaborating with engineers and physicists as needed
Document all relevant patient information, treatment parameters, and imaging records accurately
Maintain departmental supplies, cleanliness, and safety standards
Provide guidance and clinical instruction to new staff and trainees
Participate in on-call shifts as required
Adhere to regulatory, accreditation, and institutional compliance standards
Required Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited radiologic technology program
ARRT-R (Radiography) certification
Licensed as a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT) by the state medical board
BLS certification within 30 days of hire
1+ year of experience in Interventional Radiology; experience in high-volume labs, neuro, or trauma preferred
Preferred Qualifications
ARRT-CI (Cardiac Interventional), ARRT-VI (Vascular Interventional), or ARRT-CV (Cardiovascular Interventional) certification within 2 years of hire
Experience working in hybrid vascular suites or CT procedure areas
Strong patient communication, critical thinking, and procedural skills
Work Environment
Hospital or outpatient interventional radiology suite
High-acuity, fast-paced clinical environment
Exposure to radiation and sterile procedure settings
Collaborative, multidisciplinary team setting
