The Team

The Healthcare Industry Group, a subsidiary of A&M, leads transformational change in the healthcare industry. As an established leader that delivers tangible results for healthcare executives, boards, private equity firms, investors, law firms and government agencies, our professionals advise organizations on financial and operational performance improvement, strategic growth and unlocking value across the investment lifecycle. The team also provides expertise in interim management, restructuring, revenue cycle management, mergers and acquisitions, compliance and regulatory, digital technology and analytics.

You will work with clients in a variety of sectors, including health systems and providers, physician groups, ancillary providers, medical schools, vision, laboratory, dental and behavioral health; managed care and health plans, government plans and programs, healthcare investors and lenders, medical devices, healthcare suppliers and infrastructure, and life sciences.

HIG’s Healthcare Services practice (HCS), with offices throughout the US, focuses on serving private equity firm’s portfolio companies and public and private healthcare companies. HCS services include performance improvement/operational turnarounds, cost optimization, M&A services, finance operations, and interim management (including CFO services).

  • Technology Assessment: We support review and analysis of platform, data and system architectures, and related applications, integrations, infrastructure, processes (PLC, SDLC, compliance), data (architecture, governance, BI, etc.), security, IT teams, and value opportunities.
  • Performance Improvement/Operational Turnaround: We assess businesses and identify key areas impeding performance quickly and effectively.
  • Cost Optimization: A holistic, cross‑functional approach that identifies high‑impact opportunities for EBITDA and cash flow improvements across the entire cost structure.
  • M&A Services: We support companies throughout the M&A lifecycle, including conducting operational/synergy due diligence, integration planning and execution, and divestiture and carve‑out planning.
  • Finance Operations: We improve clients’ finance operations, including management reporting and optimization of the month‑end close process.
  • Interim Management: In select instances, HCS’s experienced operators step into interim roles (CEO, COO, CFO, CIO) to drive change while a full‑time replacement is recruited.

How You Will Contribute

As a Director you will be a “player‑coach” – leading a team and acting as the main conduit between Healthcare clients and our team on complex assignments, many centered around the MedTech and medical device space. You are responsible for end‑to‑end delivery of projects, including overseeing interview activities, gathering relevant data, modeling, creating valuable insights and deliverables, developing goals and deadlines, reviewing work product of junior staff, and communicating with clients directly.

  • Quickly identify and implement opportunities to significantly reduce cost structure.
  • Review Go‑to‑Market strategies including portfolio assessments, pricing, sales compensation plans, and sales force effectiveness.
  • Rapidly build and manage financial models and conduct financial and operating analyses.
  • Provide project management (PMO) assistance and overall governance support to clients.
  • Utilize and create project management tools and templates to track activities and progress.
  • Leverage tools such as Smartsheet, Lucid, PowerBI, and Generative AI to provide efficient solutions.
  • Guide clients through crises and quick solutions, structuring and executing performance improvement plans.
  • Develop operational data analysis, KPI metrics, and conduct client interviews to evaluate operations.
  • Summarize, draw conclusions and create recommendations from large data sets or analyses.
  • Lead various work streams within a project.
  • Prepare client‑ready deliverables and presentations, making presentations to clients.
  • Coach and mentor junior staff.
  • Build relationships with clients and seek opportunities to expand the scope of business.
  • Support marketing initiatives by assisting with pitch preparation and creation of marketing materials.
  • Help build product and service offering tools and templates.

Qualifications

General Skills

  • High energy individuals with a passion for healthcare and solving complex issues.
  • Minimum of twelve (12) years of work experience in healthcare with a MedTech focus on commercial, engineering, operations, or finance. Preferred combination of consulting and industry experience. Advanced Excel and PowerPoint proficiency.
  • Advanced PowerPoint and Excel skills a must; experience with Visio, Tableau or Power BI, SQL, SPSS, benchmarking is plus.
  • Ability to run an engagement with little oversight while maintaining solid project management and organizational skills.
  • Solid understanding of the M&A process, including operational and commercial due diligence.
  • Working knowledge of the MedTech industry across channels and value chain.
  • Prior experience with PE firms.
  • Experience managing client engagements, deliverables, and workstreams while mentoring junior staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • BA/BS degree and/or MBA/MS in Accounting, Finance, or related healthcare fields such as MHA or MPH.

Commercial Skills

  • Familiarity with pricing structures, local agreements (GPO/IDN), group purchasing orgs and integrated delivery networks.
  • Understanding of commercial channels/call points such as ASCs, hospitals and home health agencies, direct vs. distribution.
  • Understanding of sales compensation structures.
  • High level understanding of commercial plans, Medicare and the managed care landscape.
  • Knowledge of product profitability analyses.

Operational Skills

  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, including direct and contract manufacturing, distribution and logistics networks.
  • Understanding of manufacturing standards, standard costing methodologies, inventory management strategies, vendor consolidation analyses and insource vs outsourcing models.

Regular employees working 30 or more hours per week are also entitled to participate in Alvarez & Marsal Holdings’ fringe benefits consisting of healthcare plans, flexible spending and savings accounts, life, AD&D, and disability coverages, 401(k) retirement plan, and discretionary contribution from Alvarez & Marsal.

The annual base salary range is $160 – $180k commensurate with experience. A&M offers a discretionary bonus program based on individual and firm performance. Please ask your recruiter for details.
