We are seeking a

WordPress Designer/Developer (Hybrid)

to design and build visually compelling, user-friendly websites while handling light-to-moderate custom development work.

In this role, you'll: Take projects from concept through launch Translate brand and business goals into effective WordPress solutions Balance design aesthetics with reliable, maintainable site builds Help clients feel confident managing their content after launch This is a

hybrid position

based in Alpena, MI. You'll collaborate in person with our creative team on a regular basis, with flexibility for partial remote work. Key Responsibilities

Design and build responsive WordPress websites from start to finish Customize WordPress themes and page layouts using

Elementor, Gutenberg, or similar page builders Implement and configure plugins for:

Forms and lead capture SEO Security Performance and caching

Apply basic

HTML, CSS, and light PHP/JavaScript

to fine-tune layouts and functionality Ensure all sites are:

Mobile-friendly Fast-loading SEO-ready

Maintain WordPress best practices for usability, scalability, and security Troubleshoot and resolve common WordPress issues (theme conflicts, plugin errors, layout bugs, etc.) Perform basic testing across browsers and devices before launch Provide clear documentation or short guides to help clients update their content Stay aware of WordPress and web design trends to keep our work current and effective Skills

Technical & Design Skills Strong skill in designing clean, modern, and user-friendly interfaces Ability to build and customize WordPress sites using themes and page builders (Elementor, Gutenberg, or similar) Proficient in

HTML and CSS , with working knowledge of

basic PHP Comfort using and configuring common WordPress plugins (forms, SEO, security, performance, backups) Ability to implement responsive design for a variety of screen sizes and devices Professional & Collaboration Skills

Strong understanding of UI/UX principles and how to guide users through a page or funnel Ability to communicate design and technical decisions in clear, plain language Strong time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines Detail-oriented approach to layout, typography, spacing, and consistency Comfortable collaborating with designers, copywriters, and account leads, as well as working independently Knowledge WordPress ecosystem:

themes, child themes, plugins, widgets, menus, and customizer basics UI/UX fundamentals:

hierarchy, usability, accessibility awareness, and user flows Responsive design principles:

how layouts, images, and navigation adapt to mobile, tablet, and desktop SEO fundamentals:

on-page SEO basics (titles, meta descriptions, headings, image alt tags, clean URLs) Site performance basics:

image optimization, caching concepts, minimizing heavy plugins, and clean code structure Security best practices (at a practical level):

updates, backups, strong credentials, and safe plugin choices Familiarity with working with

small businesses, coaches, and service-based brands

We are looking for someone who can put these skills and knowledge into action by: Turning brand guidelines and content into clear, intuitive page layouts in WordPress Choosing the right mix of theme, page builder, and plugins to achieve project goals without "plugin bloat" Diagnosing and fixing layout issues, plugin conflicts, and other common WordPress problems efficiently Balancing design quality with performance, security, and long-term maintainability Explaining technical choices to clients and teammates in a way that is easy to understand Creating simple, user-friendly documentation or walkthroughs so clients can manage their own content Managing their own workload, communicating progress, and meeting agreed-upon deadlines Working effectively in a hybrid setup-bringing ideas and feedback to in-person meetings and staying responsive online Benefits
