Overview
Join a family-owned pet food company with deep heritage and a reputation built over generations. We’re a trusted name in the industry because we’ve always led with what matters most: quality, consistency, and long-term partnerships. While we proudly support the independent and neighborhood pet channel, our approach translates across retail formats—we show up as a dependable, retailer-first brand whether you’re calling on a store owner-operator or a larger regional account. This is a rare opportunity to represent an established brand with real credibility and help grow the next chapter of our footprint through relationship-driven, in-person sales.
Responsibilities
Own and grow your territory:
Plan weekly routes, prioritize high-potential accounts, and maintain consistent in-person store coverage.
Open new accounts:
Prospect, pitch, and onboard new retailers (independent, regional, and select larger-format opportunities where applicable).
Grow existing business:
Expand distribution within current accounts—add SKUs, increase shelf presence, improve reorder cadence, and protect placement.
Drive in-store execution:
Support planograms/resets, improve shelving and signage, place POS, and elevate shelf presentation to increase velocity.
Educate and train store teams:
Deliver product knowledge training and selling tools so staff can confidently recommend the brand.
Manage promotions and programs:
Present and execute promos, track performance, and help retailers maximize turns while minimizing dead stock.
Partner with distributors:
Coordinate ordering flow, improve fill rates, resolve service issues, and support distributor sales initiatives in the territory.
Represent the brand locally:
Attend and support demos, retailer events, and regional trade shows; build community relationships in the pet channel.
Collaborate cross-functionally:
Work with marketing and operations on launches, samples, merchandising materials, and customer support needs.
Operate professionally in the field:
Uphold brand standards, follow territory policies, manage samples/materials, and handle issues quickly and respectfully.
Qualifications
2+ years of outside sales experience (CPG preferred; pet industry experience a plus).
Proven ability to open new accounts and grow existing relationships.
Strong communication and presentation skills; comfortable training store staff.
Highly organized: can plan routes, manage follow-ups, and hit targets in a large territory.
Comfortable lifting/carrying product samples and setting shelf/POP when needed.
Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle; willing to travel regularly within territory (including some overnight).
Preferred Experience (Nice to Have)
Experience selling into independent pet retail, natural specialty, or feed/farm accounts.
Distributor relationship experience (working through distribution, not just direct).
Familiarity with trade promotions, in-store merchandising standards, and retail math (turns/velocity).
