Overview Duties Description The New York State Senate is seeking a creative, detail-oriented individual with strong communication skills to join their team as a Graphic Arts Project Advisor in the Production Services division. A Graphic Arts Project Advisor assists in streamlining the creation of visual content, while assisting management of design projects from concept to completion, and ensures the final product meets brand standards and project specifications. Key responsibilities include understanding and implementing Institutional knowledge, policies, and procedures. Working with management to understand the global aspects of production and throughput of design, proofing, and production, as well as supervising designers, providing creative direction, managing project timelines, and performing final proofing and quality control for print and digital assets. The role requires very strong people skills, strong leadership, project management skills, and an understanding of design principles and software, such as the Adobe Creative Suite. Key responsibilities in this dynamic role include:

Responsibilities

Project management: Oversee the entire lifecycle of creative projects, from initial client brief to final delivery, ensuring they are completed

Team leadership: Work with management to provide guidance to a team of graphic designers

Creative direction: Develop and implement creative concepts and strategies, and provide art direction to internal and external stakeholders

Proofing and quality control: Conduct final reviews of all designs for spelling, grammar, and layout, ensuring all content adheres to brand guidelines and project requirements before it goes to print or is finalized

Production coordination: Manage the production process, which may include coordinating with printers, vendors, and other external partners

Asset management: Maintain a digital asset management system to organize and archive all design files

Client liaison: Communicate with clients to understand their needs and present design concepts and revisions

Process improvement: Stay updated on industry trends and new tools to improve the team’s efficiency and the quality of work.

Minimum Qualifications

Technical Skills: An understanding of graphic design software like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign

Design Knowledge: Strong understanding of design principles, typography, color theory, and layout composition

Leadership: Excellent leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and guide a team

Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to present creative work and collaborate effectively with clients and team members

Creativity: Communicate, with respect, at a high level to bring about a positive result

Experience: Previous experience in graphic design is helpful or a related field, often including experience with print production and project management, is required

Additional Information Salary range is $52,000 to $57,000, commensurate with experience. This is a full-time 35-hour per week position located in Albany, NY.
