Overview
Client Background: Self-published children’s book author seeking virtual support to expand digital presence, promote books, and manage outreach to schools, libraries, and events. Marketing and operations are currently handled solely by the client.
Weekly Commitment: 5 hours per week to start (trial phase – potential to scale); Flexible schedule; Occasional live calls preferred around 8:00 AM CST.
Responsibilities
Short-Form Video Editing & Repurposing
Edit existing long-form Instagram videos (approx. 1–1:15 minutes) into short-form content
Repurpose each long-form video into 1–4 short videos where appropriate
Create:
2 short-form videos per week initially
Potential increase to 3 per week
Optimize videos for platforms such as:
Instagram Reels
TikTok (or alternative short-form platforms as advised)
Improve engagement through:
Strong hooks
Clean cuts
Captions and pacing aligned with short-form trends
Take creative initiative while remaining open to client feedback
Social Media Content Creation
Assist with additional content beyond reels, including:
Book promotional posts
Carousel posts
Event or reading announcements
Quotes or excerpts from the book
Use existing photos and video assets provided by the client
Help conceptualize and design a
book promo-style advertisement
Ensure content aligns with the client’s emerging brand style
Brand guidelines to be inferred initially from past content
Brand look to be refined collaboratively over time
Outreach & Research (Libraries, Schools & Influencers)
Research libraries and schools
within the Austin, Texas area
Build a contact list including:
School administrators
Librarians
Program or event coordinators
Support email outreach using
client-provided templates
Assist with influencer outreach using an existing template
Maintain simple tracking of outreach status and responses
Vendor & Event Research
Research relevant vendor events, book fairs, or community events
Compile a list including:
Event cost
Location
Estimated foot traffic
Date and relevance
Help client evaluate ROI potential of events
Amazon Publishing Support (Research-Based)
Conduct high-level research and comparison on:
Amazon Seller Central vs Amazon KDP
Summarize pros and cons to support the client’s decision-making
No publishing execution required initially unless agreed later
Tools & Collaboration
Video tools may include:
CapCut
Canva Pro
Adobe tools (subject to discussion)
Preference for tools that allow:
Direct commenting
Shared editing or easy revision workflows
VA may use client’s Pro accounts where appropriate (case-by-case)
Communication via:
Slack or chat-based messaging
Occasional calls if detailed feedback is needed
Required Skills & Experience
Proven experience with short-form video editing
Understanding of social media trends and engagement strategies
Strong attention to detail and storytelling flow
Comfortable taking initiative while incorporating feedback
Experience supporting creators, authors, or small brands is a plus
Organized and reliable in a low-hour, high-impact role
