This role partners closely with families, volunteers, and church leadership to nurture the spiritual formation of the next generation. Key Responsibilities
SEEK — Outreach & Engagement
Collaborate with the Age Level and Family Ministries Team to plan and implement events and activities for children, youth, and families. Attend and support ministry events to build relationships with families. Develop new outreach initiatives that connect with families in the surrounding community. CONNECT — Relationships & Communication
Build meaningful relationships with children and youth through regular presence and personal engagement. Plan and lead gatherings and activities that encourage spiritual growth and community. Work collaboratively with pastoral staff, ministry teams, and church leadership. Advocate for children and youth participation in worship, church life, and service opportunities. Participate in relevant meetings (staff, worship, and family ministry teams). Develop and manage a ministry budget aligned with church priorities. Communicate regularly through church communication channels, social media, and announcements. Maintain consistent, two-way communication with parents and guardians. NURTURE — Formation & Care
Recruit, train, and support adult volunteers. Foster a grace-filled environment rooted in Wesleyan theology. Create safe spaces where young people can ask questions, express emotions, and grow in faith. Ensure safety and emergency procedures are in place and followed. Implement and uphold Safe Sanctuary and child protection policies. Provide encouragement and resources for families. Qualifications
Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal). Familiarity with or openness to United Methodist theology. Experience in children’s, youth, or family ministry. Ability to organize, plan, and execute events. Skill in recruiting and leading volunteers. Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize and work independently. Problem-solving and adaptability. Insurable driver. Professional Expectations
Prepare curriculum and materials for weekly programs on a monthly schedule. Use resources aligned with United Methodist theology. Coordinate events with the Age Level and Family Ministries Team and align them with the church’s mission and vision. Ensure all programs meet Safe Sanctuary requirements. Follow all Watkins UMC and United Methodist Church policies. Maintain strict confidentiality. Demonstrate respectful and professional conduct. Non-smoking on church premises. Social media and public presence should reflect Christian character and values.
