The Village of Niles is seeking an experienced, strategic, and service oriented municipal finance professional to serve as its next Director of Finance. This position functions as the Village’s Chief Financial Officer and Village Treasurer, providing executive level leadership over all financial operations and serving as a trusted advisor to the Village Manager, Mayor, and Board of Trustees. The ideal candidate will be a confident, solutions-oriented finance executive who combines technical expertise with strong leadership and organizational judgment. The ideal candidate will be a department head–level professional who is comfortable setting direction, making decisions, and ensuring results in a dynamic municipal environment. Successful candidates will demonstrate: Proven leadership ability, including the capacity to build, mentor, and motivate a high-performing finance team Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy under pressure Sound professional judgment and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify what must be done versus what should be done to support organizational goals A proactive, strategic mindset with attention to detail and follow-through The ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and effectively to elected officials, executive leadership, and non-financial audiences Experience managing unionized staff, with a demonstrated understanding of and ability to operate in compliance with collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) A collaborative management style that fosters trust, accountability, and professionalism within a unionized municipal environment The Director of Finance is a full time, exempt, non-bargaining position. Salary is $143,260 – $200,565, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Village of Niles offers a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, and life insurance; IMRF pension; and vacation, sick, personal, and holiday time. Additional benefits include complimentary fitness center membership and tuition reimbursement, among others.
