Reporting to the Managing Director of Curriculum and Instruction, the Network Director of Curriculum and Instruction: Humanities is responsible for developing, codifying, and supporting the implementation of a rigorous, vertically aligned PreK-12th Grade Humanities curriculum. The role collaborates with school-based leaders to design and facilitate high-quality professional development and coaching, ensure strong curriculum implementation, and make strategic adjustments to curriculum and teaching in response to student data. The ideal candidate has extensive knowledge of innovative best practices for Humanities teaching and learning in PreK-12, experience fostering adult learning through professional development and coaching, and strong data utilization and strategic thinking skills. Responsibilities
Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment Collaborates with the Managing Director of Schools and other key stakeholders to create a strategic vision for the network curriculum model. Designs and manages the development of a rigorous, vertically-aligned, and interdisciplinary PreK-12 ELA and Social Studies curriculum that fosters achievement, takes a constructivist and culturally responsive approach, and develops students’ critical consciousness. Manages the selection, adaptation, and/or creation of unit plans, assessments, lesson plans, and instructional materials for DREAM’s PreK-12 ELA and Social Studies curriculum aligned to the science of reading and pedagogical best practices. Manages the creation and revision of network interim and unit-level assessments. Collaborates to design a multi-year process for strategic redesign, revision, and codification of the PreK-12 ELA and Social Studies curriculum and assessments. Analyzes student data to assess curricular effectiveness, implements short- and long-term revisions, and creates network, school, and classroom-level action plans and resources to improve achievement. Collaborates with and coaches Principals, Academic Deans, Deans of Student Supports, and other stakeholders to analyze assessment data and drive instruction. Leads the ELA Working Group to innovate the ELA academic program. People Leadership & Development Manages the Humanities team within the Curriculum and Instruction Team to ensure alignment of PK-12 Humanities programs, curriculum and assessment distribution, and data analysis. Designs and coaches high-quality network-level professional development and coaching practices. Designs and leads training for Principals, Academic Deans, and Deans of Student Supports in collaboration with other leaders. Leads CIT operations planning and facilitates meetings and professional development with key stakeholders. Supports network-wide academic strategy and implementation through curriculum operations planning. Oversees curriculum implementation and content walkthroughs to support school-based teams in targeting focus areas for instructional improvement by observing literacy instruction and analyzing data. Regularly observes and provides feedback to Associate Directors of Humanities, Principals, Academic Deans, and Deans of Student Supports on coaching effectiveness. Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree in Education, Teaching, or School Administration preferred. Minimum of 8 years of education experience with a track record of success for all students. Minimum of 3 years of school leadership experience. Minimum of 2 years of network- or district-level leadership experience. Extensive experience in the selection, design, and development of curriculum and assessment. Commitment to innovation, strategic planning, and continuous improvement. Experience developing teacher and leader knowledge, skills, and productive mindsets around teaching and learning, including adult PD and coaching. Extensive knowledge of the science of reading, instructional design, curriculum development, assessment design, historically responsive pedagogies, and best practices in ELA and Social Studies. A drive to achieve results for all students, especially those furthest from opportunity. Commitment to equity and inclusion in DREAM schools. Excellent interpersonal skills, cultural competency, and ability to connect with a diverse group of people. Excellent organizational skills and ability to project plan, prioritize, and balance multiple projects. Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to convey complex information to varied audiences. The Network Director of Curriculum and Instruction: Humanities is part of the Curriculum team, which currently works 3 days in the office and up to 2 days remote per week (subject to change). Compensation DREAM offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience. The incoming annual salary range for this position is $125,000 to $140,000. New hires are typically placed at the start of the range depending on qualifications and budget. Regular employees receive annual increases and have opportunities for performance- and tenure-based bonuses. Salaries are not capped.
