Position: Resident Director Department: Residential Life RH — Campus: Rose Hill — Work Arrangement: Onsite Position Information: Exempt, 35 hours per week. The Resident Director guides Fordham's educational residential program, creating communities that enhance belonging and contribute to retention, especially among first-year students in halls operating as Integrated Learning Communities (ILCs). Responsibilities
Reporting to the Associate Director, guide Fordham's educational residential program and create communities that enhance belonging, contributing to retention, especially among first-year students. Collaborate with housing operations, conduct, and mental health/substance abuse prevention-focused staff; recruit, lead, and support a staff of student Resident Assistants; set and manage expectations for the year. Serve as a first responder for life-safety situations with a 24/7 on-call duty rotation and evening/weekend hours. On a regular basis, respond to facilities, safety, and/or crisis situations; assist Resident Assistants-On-Duty with incidents, questions, and concerns. Manage housing operations (move-in/closing/openings, fire drills, occupancy, damage reporting, Health and Safety inspections). Assess community needs to develop curriculum and learning outcomes for Resident Assistants and the Resident Director. Co-manage the Integrated Learning Community in the residence hall; collaborate with Academic Affairs, Faculty, Ministers, Administrators in Residence, and the Master of the Residential College. Manage the conduct process for the hall; teach community standards; train staff to respond, document, and report incidents. Educate hall/housing on community standards; foster community development and celebrate diversity; support academic engagement. Instruct parents/guardians on Fordham’s Residential Life approach; serve as point of contact for student concerns and involve families when appropriate. Develop and facilitate individual and staff training programs, staff socials, and professional development; conduct weekly staff meetings. Collaborate with the Assistant Director and Budget Coordinator to manage the hall programming budget and fund allocations. Advise and support the Residence Halls Association hall board; attend weekly meetings and support programming initiatives. Serve as Administrative Support Person for complainants and respondents in sexual misconduct cases and as a monthly check-in for students re-entering after mental health-related programs. Abide by University policy and exemplify Jesuit mission-oriented education. Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree. Minimum one year of experience in a pre-professional or professional role in resident life operations. Knowledge of student behavioral and safety interventions, including conflict resolution. Excellent leadership, organizational, and time-management skills; strong communication and presentation skills. Proficiency with Google and Microsoft Office; ability to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize projects. Demonstrated understanding of mission-driven education in the Jesuit Catholic tradition. Preferred: Master’s Degree. Compensation and Additional Details
