Role Overview : The Director of Finance and Accounting will guide all financial functions for a full-service hotel, serving as the key financial decision-maker. This leader works closely with the General Manager and regional finance partners to optimize financial outcomes, uphold compliance standards, and provide clear, accurate reporting. The position requires a finance professional who is comfortable leading a team, deeply knowledgeable about hotel accounting, and confident communicating results to ownership and external stakeholders.
Primary Duties
Act as the hotel’s senior finance authority, ensuring strong controls and reliable financial data.
Collaborate directly with property leadership and the management company on financial strategy.
Communicate monthly performance updates, forecasts, and key insights to ownership groups.
Interpret trends in revenue, expenses, and cash flow to guide operational decisions.
Direct daily accounting activities such as AP, AR, payroll, cash handling, and general ledger management.
Oversee all closing processes, maintaining accuracy for monthly and annual reporting cycles.
Guarantee statements meet GAAP requirements and internal standards.
Review balance sheet activity and reconcile accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
Lead preparation of the annual budget and ongoing forecast revisions.
Analyze performance gaps and partner with department heads on labor, costs, and revenue opportunities.
Monitor outstanding receivables and cash positions, ensuring timely follow-up and proper controls.
Contribute to long-range planning and financial modeling.
Ensure adherence to corporate policies, audit requirements, and regulatory rules.
Coordinate review processes with internal and external auditors.
Supervise, coach, and support a team.
Function as the property’s subject-matter expert for financial platforms.
Required Background & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related area.
5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience within the hotel industry.
Strong command of hotel accounting procedures, controls, and operational drivers.
Demonstrated capability in budgeting, forecasting, P&L review, AR and cash management, and presenting to ownership or management companies.
M3 proficiency required; Lightspeed experience strongly preferred.
Advanced Excel skills.
Excellent communication abilities, leadership presence, and stakeholder management skills.
