The Role Athena Club is looking for a
Brand Designer, Retail & Physical Experiences
to join our Creative team at our New York HQ. Reporting directly to the Creative Director, this team member will lead the design and execution of physical brand expressions across retail, gifting, and experiential environments, bringing our brand to life wherever customers encounter it. This is a hands-on role for a designer who loves crafting beautiful, brand-right work in real space and is excited to grow their conceptual, spatial, and storytelling skills through physical design.
Responsibilities
Brand, Retail & Physical Design: Lead the design of retail ISM systems, including shelf architecture, endcaps, secondary placements, displays, risers, trays, fixtures, signage, headers, and environmental graphics
Concept and design visual merchandising strategies that elevate product storytelling at shelf
Translate brand campaigns into retail-ready systems that work across multiple store formats
Develop creative for retail pop-ups, activations, trade shows, and retailer-specific campaigns and takeovers
Create gifting, PR/influencer kits, and tactile brand touchpoints for DTC and partnerships
Concept and design merchandise, premiums, and gift-with-purchase programs that feel distinctive in-store
Prepare production-ready files and collaborate with vendors, fabricators, printers, and manufacturers to ensure precision and quality
Campaign & Digital Support
Create and adapt digital assets for social, eCommerce (including Amazon carousels and PDP imagery), and paid placements
Adapt campaign creative for in-store, trade marketing, and retailer-specific needs
Design supporting digital assets for social, eCommerce, and retail partners where relevant
Partner with internal and external teams to maintain brand consistency across physical and digital touchpoints
Collaboration & Process
Work closely with creative, brand, retail, product, and ops teams to translate strategy into compelling physical design
Share work early, invite feedback, and iterate collaboratively
Bring fresh ideas that evolve how the brand lives in real space and retail environments
Requirements
BA or BS and 3–5 years of design experience, ideally with consumer, CPG, beauty, or lifestyle brands
Strong portfolio spanning packaging, retail, ISM, and brand environments
Skilled in print production, fabrication specifications, and file preparation for physical builds
Thinks spatially and understands how design translates from screen to shelf
Self-starter with excellent organizational and prioritization skills
Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally across technical and non-technical teams
Brings curiosity, taste, and a high bar for craft and execution
Nice to Have
Experience designing for major retailers (e.g., Target, Ulta, Sephora, Walmart, Amazon)
Familiarity with retail planograms, fixture systems, and store requirements
Comfort working with agencies, freelancers, printers, and fabricators
