Overview

The Intake Specialist is responsible for screening patients for insurance eligibility and verification, assisting uninsured clients in exploring coverage options, and registering new patients. They ensure that daily Sliding Fee Scale applications for uninsured patients are completed and uploaded into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Additionally, they issue Good Faith Estimates for patients who choose not to use insurance or opt for self-pay. Responsibilities

Complete New York State (NYS) Assistor Training for Insurance Enrollment within the first 30 days. Assist uninsured patients with enrolling in insurance through the NYS Marketplace, including ADAP applications for Health Services clients, as well as PrEP, HIV, and Hep C Navigation Services. Issue Good Faith Estimates for clients who require them at least three days before their visit. Verify insurance eligibility for both scheduled and walk-in visits. Complete Sliding Fee Scale applications for uninsured/underinsured patients and upload them into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Enroll clients in Medicaid HMO and assist them with changing their insurance or Primary Care Provider (PCP). Participate in interdisciplinary meetings, morning huddles, and regular medical staff meetings, including Quality Improvement (QI) sessions. Support and actively participate in advocacy efforts to combat homelessness and AIDS. Provide excellent customer service, addressing concerns effectively and escalating issues to the Clinic Manager or Health Center Director as needed. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Health Center Director or Clinic Operations Manager. Provide coverage as needed for Patient Service Representatives. Job Requirements

Experience in healthcare administration, or a related field. Strong organizational and multitasking skills. Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems, preferably eClinicalWorks. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI). Ability to work flexible hours, including 9 AM–5 PM on non-late clinic days, 11 AM–7 PM on late clinic days, and weekend shifts from 9 AM–5 PM. Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
