Sargent is searching for Superintendents in the Piedmont-Triad area. If you have previous experience supervising crews in either an earth moving setting or pipe laying environment, we want to hear from you!

Responsibilities

Provide on-site administrative and technical management on a construction project site, including scheduling, coordination, supervision and safe work practices for all project activities, including Sargent and subcontractor personnel.

Supervise construction efforts to ensure the project is constructed in accordance with the design, budget and schedule constraints. Interface with the client, client representatives, inspectors, governmental officials, other contractors, suppliers and field staff.

Plan, direct and supervise workers engaged in construction activities.

Follow all OSHA and company safety policies; create and reinforce a culture of safety with clear expectations.

Provide safety feedback and coaching to foremen and crews; ensure subcontractors follow company safety policies; maintain awareness of onsite hazards.

Conduct weekly safety training for employees.

Understand and plan project resource needs one week to three months in advance; interpret and explain project plans to foremen and crews.

Maintain contract submittal files and ensure materials ordered, delivered and installed conform to submittals; maintain project documents and record drawings.

Coordinate with Dig Safe for utility locations and ensure markings are maintained.

Minimize resource and cost surprises; ensure crews have the best resources at the right time.

Foster a culture of continuous production improvement in the field and communicate production expectations regularly to the project team.

Manage subcontractors and provide feedback on performance; coordinate work across crews, departments and other contractors.

Create and reinforce a culture of quality; conduct and document quality control inspections.

Investigate incidents and accidents and document findings; conduct evaluations of supervised employees for more than 200 hours in a season.

Represent Sargent positively with clients and in the community; document the project thoroughly, including project quantity records and time cards.

Identify, develop and mentor field talent; resolve personnel issues at the field level when possible; escalate to Human Resources or Operations Manager as needed.

Support and demonstrate consistency with company policies; maintain good relationships with employees, subcontractors, clients, owners and engineers.

Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.

Desired Education/Experience

Minimum High School Diploma or GED. Four year Engineering or Construction Management degree preferred; or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.

Extensive knowledge of and experience in Construction Supervision.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

OSHA 30 hour training.

Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent supervisory and organizational skills with attention to detail.

Excellent customer service skills.

Ability to supervise a variety of items and people, which may change often; travel to visit work sites.

Thorough knowledge of earth construction, engineering methods and drawings, cost control and scheduling.

Ability to follow and enforce safety standards; make timely, sound decisions.

Maintain neat, professional appearance on job sites.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

Stand or walk frequently and for long durations; lift and carry materials and tools up to 50 pounds.

Climb ladders; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl in construction areas, including confined spaces.

Operate hand tools; 20/40 vision with or without corrective lenses; hear on sites where backup alarms or other sounds may be required.

Meet the physical requirements necessary to perform duties for up to 12 hours a day in hot and cold weather conditions.

Travel and Benefits

Travel throughout the region to work on infrastructure projects; Sargent pays travel expenses including lodging, mileage, per diem for meals, and vehicle reimbursement; you will be home every weekend.
