They are responsible for managing these functions in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Supervises and builds relationships with a group of elementary and middle school campers.

Implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.

Creates an atmosphere that is fun, safe, friendly and challenging.

Mentors and models responsible behavior while leading programs.

Adheres to YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.

In collaboration with a YMCA Youth Director, the Youth Counselor will plan and implement a special activity for their campers that is developmentally appropriate and engaging for their campers.

Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.

Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.

Knowledge and ability to coach Flag Football, Soccer, Basketball, and/or Volleyball

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be at least 16 years of age.

Previous experience working with children of all ages preferred but not required.

Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, planning and organizing activities, crafts, songs/music, skits, sports, recreational games, etc.

Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Multi-lingual desired but not required.

They areresponsible for managing thesefunctionsinaccordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.

Job Schedule: Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. not to exceed 40 hours per week. Camp Quay is located at Lincoln Heights Elementary school in Fuquay Varina.

Essential Functions

Leads theSummer Day CampProgram (program schedule, parent communication, staff oversight and training,staff scheduling,etc.)

Provides leadership and guidance to all staff members on a daily basis.

Assists supervisor in onboarding, training and evaluating program staff.

Completes a program schedule for the program utilizing the YMCA of the Triangle curriculum framework.

Responsible for communication to parents and caregivers includingweekly newsletter and updates.

Responsible for building and stewarding a positive relationship withbranch or host facility staff, maintaining equipment and cleanliness of space.

Opens/closes the program daily.

Supports counselors with major discipline issues.

Maintains necessary records for all campers in assigned programs in accordance with Association standards.

Plans and leads all Family Nights and staff meetings throughout the summer.

Hold assigned staff accountable to performance standards, including safety.

Provide regular informal coaching as well as formal mid/end of summer evaluations for staff in line with Director’s feedback and support.

Plan and lead assemblies.

Responsible for workingwith leadership staff and prosto order necessary equipment for activities prior to the start of camp.

Manages all camper and staff awards forcamp.

Facilitates the daily setup of camp and maintains the upkeep of all camp materials, equipment, and signage; helps open or close programs daily as assigned.

Maintains First Aid, CPR Professional Rescuer (CPRO), Child Abuse Prevention, Epi-Pen, Emergency Medication Administration, and Blood Borne Pathogens certifications/trainings and ensures that staff maintain current certifications as well.

Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.

Models relationship building skills in all interactions.

Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.

Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED requiredwith 2 year of experience leading children.

Must have a strong background in group control, leading activities, planning and organizing.

Must have knowledge of how Y programs run.

Ability to work with and motivate parents, staff, and children.

Must be sensitive and mature and able to provide leadership for counselor staff.

Must be able to obtainBasic Life Support/First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, CPRO, and Epi-Pen certifications within their first 30 days of hire.

Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Multi-lingual desired but not required.
