Student Account Collections Specialist
The University of Lynchburg, a private, regional university in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Central Virginia, is seeking applicants for full-time Student Account Collections Specialist position in the Department of Finance. This position reports to, is supervised by, and evaluated by the Manager of Student Accounts. The evaluation of work performance will be ongoing and will be carried out by the Manager of Student Accounts. It will include the specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior. Job Purpose: Provides student account services and collects on student accounts. Serves as the main cashier for the University of Lynchburg. Specific Job Duties: Serves as main cashier for the University. Enters payments received in-person, over the phone, and online. Will also enter all other deposits from departments across campus including (but not limited to) Dining Hall, Westover Room, On Common Ground, and the Campus Store. Reconciles all payments received throughout the day for both Student AR and Other Receipts. Composes bank deposit tickets at the end of each day and logs deposits on the daily log. Assists students, parents, and third-party payees in financial matters related to student accounts. Answers questions from parents regarding tuition and financial matters through in-person, email, or phone conversation. Handles collections for all inactive accounts through emails, phone calls, and letters. Sends inactive accounts to collection agencies after 60 days of inactivity. Manages all requests for petty cash advances, including Life at Lynchburg. Responds to voicemail messages and emails on a daily basis. Sets up payment arrangements and adds PERC holds as needed. Participates in fall and spring orientation and check-in as needed. Serves as backup and processes refunds in the absence of the Manager of Student Accounts. Performs any other related duties as may be assigned. Experience/Skills: Ability to communicate effectively and have the ability to understand, comprehend and follow directions Must have good teamwork skills Good oral and writing skills for effective communication by telephone or direct personal contact and for creating reports and memos to students. Physical Demands: Work is usually performed sitting with little standing. The normal work schedule is 37.5 hours per week. Some additional time may be required at the beginning of each semester. Time constraints and pressure are expected during peak times. Education: High school diploma. Bachelor's degree preferred. Qualifications: Two years of a customer service background with computer and/or accounting experience. Experience in Colleague is preferred. Experience in Google Suite and Microsoft Office (especially Google sheets and Excel) are preferred.
