Job Description
The Boat Captain is responsible for the safe operation, navigation, and maintenance of rescue and tour vessels, ensuring the safety and comfort of all guests and crew on board at one or more Carnival Corporation owned and operated global destination. This role requires strict adherence to all applicable laws, maritime regulations, and company safety policies while upholding the highest standards of professionalism and seamanship. The Boat Captain oversees daily vessel inspections, manages operational readiness, identifies and reports maintenance needs, and ensures that all equipment is functioning properly. Additionally, the Captain leads safety briefings, coordinates emergency procedures, and provides clear communication to both crew and passengers. By maintaining strong situational awareness and sound judgment, the Boat Captain ensures efficient, compliant, and reliable vessel operations at all times.
Vessel Safety, Compliance & Operation
Conduct pre-departure and post-arrival inspections to ensure operational readiness
Verify safety equipment availability and compliance with maritime regulations
Ensure vessels operate within legal limits, speed zones, and navigational rules
Maintain situational awareness of weather, sea conditions, and potential hazards
Oversee safe maneuvering during docking, anchoring, and transit
Communicate with shore side regarding safe entry and exit of the marina
Prepare and submit detailed incident reports when required
Vessel Maintenance & Equipment Care
Oversee routine maintenance of engines, generators, navigational systems, and electrical components
Inspect and maintain rescue gear, VHF radios, life jackets, and first-aid equipment
Conduct or coordinate minor repairs to ensure vessels remain operational
Keep maintenance logs updated with all inspections, repair needs, and completed work
Participate in fueling operations to ensure proper handling, storage, and safety
Assist in regular cleaning of vessels to maintain appearance and sanitation standards
Report mechanical or operational issues promptly to Management
Guest Operations & Log Management
Monitor the safe loading and unloading of guests to prevent accidents or delays
Provide clear instructions and guidance to guests during boarding and transit
Maintain accurate daily records of vessel activities, passenger counts, and operational notes
Support guest comfort and safety throughout the trip by maintaining awareness and professionalism
Respond to guest questions and concerns in a courteous and informative manner
Coordinate timing and flow of tours to meet schedule expectations
Communication & Administrative Duties
Communicate promptly with the Guest Experience Manager/Supervisor regarding any issues that may impact tour operations
Provide updates on weather conditions, vessel status, and potential delays
File required documentation, including maintenance reports and operational forms
Assist with briefings and debriefings with team members as needed
Perform any additional duties assigned by Management to support operations
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
High School or GED equivalent experience is required; additional education in Hospitality or a related field is a plus
CPR and First Aid Training
Possess a valid Class B boat license and lifeguard certification
3–5 years of experience operating and maintaining small to mid-size commercial vessels, rescue boats, or tour boats.
1–2 years of supervisory or leadership experience is often preferred (e.g., leading crew or managing guest operations).

In depth knowledge of seamanship and piloting
Ability to work in and above water in various weather conditions
Strong analytical and problem-solving skill
Organizational, communication and customer service skills required
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with employees and guests.
Ability to read and write English to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, managers, and co-workers.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be physically fit.
Ability to work in an outdoor environment as needed.
May need to stand for long periods of time.
