Auto Finance Underwriter

Onsite Position (1515 28th St SW) with potential for Hybrid work on Saturdays after successful completion of training. Special features of being an Auto Finance Underwriter: Review and analyze credit applications, financial status, property evaluations, income, and credit report information to determine creditworthiness of applicants. Use a scorecard to assess ability to pay including such factors as stability, income, and existing obligations; and apparent willingness to pay as evidenced by credit report information. Communicate approval/denial, term and payment call to sales/dealership personnel. Conduct “Welcome Calls” confirming lease and payment information, verify contract information, and explain payment methods and GPS. Retain knowledge about the lease process, regulations and guidelines and answer any questions the customer may have about their lease. Some collections including but not limited to locating and notifying customers of delinquent accounts by phone, arrange for debt repayment or establish repayment schedules, persuade customers to pay amounts due. Assist other departments when needed. Use Excel, Access, and other programs to manipulate data and create monthly reports. Other duties as assigned to conduct business. Qualifications/Requirements: 2+ years’ experience in Finance, Accounting, or Business – Automotive preferred. No previous underwriting experience required – training provided. High school diploma or equivalent. Full-time availability to work a consistent work schedule Monday-Friday and flexibility to work overtime as needed (40+ hours per week including at least 2 Saturdays per month– 6-hour shift). Computer competent and experience with Excel. Must be detail oriented, have a high level of critical thinking skills, and ability to problem solve. Highly analytical with the ability to see big picture. Maintain high standards of professionalism, integrity, ethics, and equality in management style. Exceptional interpersonal communication including verbal and phone skills. Aptitude to deal diplomatically with difficult customers or situations. Ability to maintain high levels of multi-tasking in an organized manner. Physical Demands: Sit at a computer for extended periods of time while using dual computer screens.
