Overview

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Database Administrator to join our team. As a Senior Database Administrator, you will leverage your in-depth knowledge and expertise to manage and maintain our database systems, ensuring their performance, availability, and security. You will work on complex projects, analyze diverse data sets, and develop innovative solutions to support our business objectives. This position can be located at any CGI office in the U.S, preferred location is Fairfax, VA; however, a hybrid working model is acceptable.

What you will do Install, configure, and maintain database management systems (DBMS) such as SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.

Well versed in managing cloud-based database administration, setting up and tearing down the DB environment and managed services.

Monitor database performance, implement changes, and apply new patches and versions when required.

Ensure the security of databases by implementing and managing access controls, encryption, and other security measures.

Perform regular database backups and recovery procedures to protect data integrity.

Optimize database performance through tuning, indexing, and query optimization.

Collaborate with development teams to design and implement database solutions that meet business requirements.

Troubleshoot and resolve complex database-related issues, ensuring minimal downtime and disruption.

Develop and maintain documentation for database configurations, processes, and procedures.

Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior database administrators.

Stay up to date with the latest database technologies and industry best practices.

Required qualifications Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Cloud platform experience is a must, with GCP specifically being preferred.

A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Database Administrator or in a related role.

Proficiency in database management systems such as SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.

Strong understanding of database security, backup and recovery, and performance tuning.

Experience with database monitoring and management tools.

Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze and resolve complex issues.

Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Ability to exercise good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for developing solutions.

Desired qualifications A Solution Architect or DBA level certification in at least one cloud platform (e.g., Google Cloud platforms such as Cloud SQL or AlloyDB for Relational and Spanner, Firestore, Bigtable for Non-relational).

Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash.

Experience with High Availability and Disaster Recovery planning.

Experience with Performance Monitoring Tools and Automation Tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins).

Experience with Data Warehousing (e.g., Amazon Redshift, Snowflake, Google BigQuery) and Data Modeling.

Soft skills: leadership, adaptability, and time management.

Compensation and benefits

CGI is required by law in some jurisdictions to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The current range for this role in the U.S. is $89,600.00 - $198,400.00. Compensation decisions are based on the facts and circumstances of each case.
