Overview

The Director of Facilities is a pivotal leadership role dedicated to providing safe, modern, and inspiring environments for our students and staff. We are seeking a strategic thinker, expert project manager, and outstanding communicator to lead our facilities department. In this role, you will balance high-level vision with operational excellence, ensuring our physical spaces directly support the District's mission. Supervision

Receives direction from the Chief Operating Officer. Exercises direct supervision over maintenance, grounds, custodial, HVAC and clerical personnel. Primary Duties

The following are examples of primary duties assigned to positions in this classification. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned. Strategic Leadership & Departmental Management: Visionary leadership, develop the vision, mission, values, and long-term goals for the Facilities Department. Operational Oversight: Plan and organize the responsive, preventive, and scheduled maintenance and repair of all District facilities. Support team supervisors in prioritizing work orders and projects. Financial Stewardship: Develop and manage the annual operating budget, forecast staffing and material needs, and oversee capital reserve budgets. Process Improvement: Ensure compliance with District bidding procedures, statutory requirements (such as AHERA/asbestos), and all building codes. Capital Planning & Project Management: Participate in the design, development, and implementation of major construction and renovation projects. Contractor Liaison: Serve as the primary District liaison with contractors, developers, and construction personnel. Quality Assurance: Inspect completed projects for accuracy, completeness, and strict compliance with District standards and safety codes. Resource Estimation: Estimate labor, material, and equipment needs for special repair projects and regular maintenance. People Leadership & Professional Development: Lead and mentor supervisors of maintenance, grounds, and custodial teams, as well as one office manager. Talent Management: Develop initiatives to recruit and retain high-quality staff, participate in hiring, and manage performance evaluations. Team Support: Coordinate work assignments, approve schedules and timesheets, and provide ongoing coaching. Communication & Safety Coordination: Provide ongoing communication to District leadership and stakeholders regarding project status and work orders. Emergency Response: Coordinate responses to after-hours emergencies and inclement weather in collaboration with the Transportation and Custodial departments. Coordinate fire alarm monitoring, responses to power outages, and responses to floods, fires, or other emergencies. Safety & Environment: Lead safety meetings, investigate accidents, and manage District-wide concerns regarding fire safety standards, indoor air quality, hazardous materials, and other facility safety issues. Energy Efficiency & Modernization: Oversee the District\'s energy efficiency program, leading the transition toward lower energy usage through strategic system upgrades and technological enhancements to existing infrastructure. Qualifications & Requirements

We are looking for a candidate who combines technical expertise with the ability to navigate a complex organizational environment. Technical Knowledge

Facilities Operations: Deep understanding of maintenance, grounds, HVAC, and construction practices. Regulatory Knowledge: Mastery of building codes, occupational hazards, safety practices, and pertinent Federal/State laws. Systems Management: Knowledge of preventive maintenance systems, risk management, and capital budget forecasting. Professional Skills & Abilities

Communication: Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with diverse groups at the appropriate level of detail. Problem Solving: Strong ability to analyze complex problems, identify alternative solutions, and implement effective fixes. Administrative Proficiency: Experience administering large program budgets and using modern office equipment/software. Experience & Training

Required Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: Minimum of five (5) years in building maintenance, including at least three (3) years of supervisory experience in facilities or maintenance. Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade; college education and additional specialized training in facilities maintenance is highly desirable. Licensing: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver's license. Working Environment

This is an in-person role based in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, serving schools and facilities in Glenwood Springs, Carbondale, and Basalt Versatility: This role involves a mix of office and field work, including work at heights and in inclement weather. Physicality: Candidates should be comfortable with prolonged walking, standing, or bending as required by site work. Availability: Ability to respond to emergency situations after hours. Salary, Days Worked and Benefits

Salary Range - $106,089 - $133,781 depending on experience This is an exempt, year round position Days worked: 260 days/year (with paid time off, paid vacation days, and paid time off for holiday) Work Vehicle provided for travel between office site and school or district buildings.
