At Blizzard, we craft genre-defining games and legendary worlds for all to share. Through creativity and storytelling, we create immersive universes and iconic characters. This role anchors the features and systems that drive combat, moment-to-moment gameplay, and progression in a new, unannounced open-world shooter for Blizzard.
You will bridge the gap between design and engineering with a focus on complex systems, visual scripting, rapid prototyping, and problem-solving. You will prototype ideas and guide them into the hands of designers and engineers, evaluating problems from the perspectives of all players and helping build features that are enjoyable for everyone.
You are comfortable with iterative, feedback-driven workflows, mindful of performance, and able to guide engineering efforts so systems are usable by non-engineers. You actively seek and implement input from the team and players, and adapt to changes in scope and priority while considering user experience.
This role is anticipated to be hybrid (some on-site, some work-from-home). Home studio: Irvine, CA.

Anchor features and systems for combat, moment-to-moment gameplay, and progression in an open-world shooter.
Bridge design and engineering, prototype ideas quickly, and guide them into production for designers and engineers.

Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to create expressive gameplay experiences and iterate based on feedback.
Consider performance implications and steer engineering towards usable systems for non-engineers.
Adapt to changes in scope and priority while maintaining a focus on user experience.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience as a developer in a technical field with a focus on gameplay; Technical Designer experience preferred.
Experience scripting for game development and creating prototypes from scratch.
Comfort with 3D math concepts such as vectors and rotations.
Demonstrable knowledge of how gameplay features and systems work under the hood.
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Excellent grasp of standard mathematics, statistics, and probability as they pertain to game design.
Strong technical skills, including experience with visual scripting languages and/or industry-standard toolsets (Unity, Unreal, etc.).
Pluses
Proficiency with Blueprint scripting in Unreal Engine 5.
Prior experience on gameplay features or systems in AAA games.
Analytical ability to understand how to make games feel good to players.
