Build your future with us Our Personal Lines Excess & Surplus department seeks an underwriting Manager. This role is responsible for managing a team of western zone high net worth excess & surplus underwriters. They will be monitoring risk selection, creating and maintaining business underwriting guidelines, and driving strategic growth objectives. This position is based at our Gilbert, Arizona field office.

The pay range for this position is

$110,000 - $185,000

annually. The pay determination is based on the applicant’s education, experience, location, knowledge, skills and abilities. Eligible associates may also receive an annual cash bonus and stock incentives based on company and individual performance.

Be Ready To

manage a Western Zone High Net Worth Excess & Surplus focused territory, including overseeing overall territory profitability and growth, and establishing pricing and appetite including California, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Washington, Montana, Oregon, and Wyoming with complex exposure and profiles such as wildfire, earthquake, scheduled property homeowners, and high-profile individuals.

assess team performance, including conducting performance reviews and giving feedback, tracking goals, measuring performance and handling HR issues

mentor underwriters, including coaching, collaborating on risks, providing guidance on decision making and assessing communication skills

manage production meetings, including preparing meeting materials, communicating overall territory performance, identifying key state issues, determining agencies to discuss and following up on action items

collaborate with field representatives, including communicating regularly regarding overall state/territory issues and specific agency issues

manage change, including communicating the reason for the change, supporting change initiatives, implementing changes and monitoring activity to determine if the changes are being executed properly

manage agency customer service, including soliciting feedback from agency and field staff

develop internal and external relationships, including fostering a teamwork mentality amongst underwriters, coordinating agency travel and establishing regular communication with key agency relationships

complete departmental support activities, including participating in special projects and task forces

a keen understanding of agency interaction and use of these systems and underwriting processes

well-developed verbal and written communication skills

the ability to effectively interact with agents, team members, management, and field marketing representatives

Bring Education And Experience From

a minimum of five years of personal lines underwriting experience (required)

Current property and casualty insurance licensing (required)

an AINS designation (preferred)

Experience In The Excess And Surplus Homeowners’ Market (preferred)

a familiarity of our technology systems

a knowledge of the high-net-worth marketplace, especially in Wildfire-prone areas

an understanding of Insurance Service Office coverage forms and coverage language

experience with our product and coverage advantages and the ability to communicate them to both internal and external audiences
