Overview Cambrian College's Applied Research Department requires a full time Mechanical Designer.

Note:

Internal candidates, as defined by the Full-Time Support Staff Collective Agreement, will be given first consideration.

Responsibilities

Provide assistance with the practical delivery of applied research projects in the subject areas of mechanical design.

Work with the project leads to engage industry partners seeking engineering and research solutions and to scope out and deliver projects in service of industry needs.

Carry out design, drafting and testing of mechanical and fabricated systems using specialized software and hardware, while also working with students who may also be working on projects in the lab.

As part of project work, the incumbent may be asked to design concepts using SolidWorks and build mechanical prototypes using shop equipment.

Qualifications

Three (3) year diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology. A copy of educational documents must be submitted with application. Education completed outside of Canada requires WES or ICAS evaluation with the application.

Minimum of three (3) years' experience working on mechanical design and product development solutions in industry or applied R&D setting. Experience in mining sector is desirable.

Solid understanding of the design of underground vehicles; proficient in SolidWorks; clear understanding of design principles and 2D drawings.

Sound computer and mobile application skills, with working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Energetic self-starter with excellent organizational, time-management, technical and analytical skills.

Experience in mining sector and postsecondary educational setting is desirable.
